Default V6 3.8 mustang engine is it the duratec?

Just wondering if the new ford engine is the same as the v6 3.8 mustang motors? If so they dont seem that impressive with their 1/4 mile times I have seen..

I hope not, the 6 pack mustang I drove in the US was very underwhelming. It was as smooth as a pre crossflow 250.

What year mustang are we talking? The 1990's - 2004 model had the Essex 3.8L V6, and the current Mustang has an OHC 4.0 Cologne V6. Completely different animals.

The Duratec isn't expected in Mustang until the 2009 Model year (which will be this year AFAIK). Mustang will be the best car to feel how the V6 is compared to the Barra. Only if the two cars have a common layout (FR).

I just cant wait..hehehe.

I always thought the straight six inherently produces bundles more torque than the v sixes?
Just have to wait and see....
Might have to but 2 au's from auctions as backups

I would assume he means the current one ( 4.0 ). If so, thank God we aren't getting it. It was really rough and uninspiring .. probably designed to tempt people to get the 4.6 !

No, its certainly not Duratec. The 108kW 3.8 Mustang was a joke. The 1.6 Duratec VCT has 96kW and the 2.0 Duratec has 107kW.

Sounds like an Australian manufacturer...

I've not driven a Mustang. Every time I book one over there, I get 'upgraded', and normally end up in a Crown Vic or an Explorer.

Current 4.0L V6 stang puts out 210hp around 157kw. It weighs around 1500kg so power to weight its no different to an EF Falcon. The Falcon would have more torque to boot.

As a side note I drove the Mustang GT-H with the 4.6L 3valve V8. The GT-H has about 20hp more as well as a shorter diff (part of the drag pack) than the regular Mustang GT. Power is rated at 320hp -240kw. Stock manifolds on the 3V stang makes it very asthmatic in the higher rev range. Though should be pointed out, that there are plenty of aftermarket options available.

While it made the right noises of an old school V8 muscle and pulled well of the mark the Boss has it all over it up top.

Anyway back to the 6 cylinder topic, I would say a Chev Monte Carlo SS (Might hire one of these soon) with the ol blown 3.8L buick V6 would trounce a current model V6 Stang in both roll-on and 1/4 mile. Pity the Monte Carlo is a front driver.

In stock form they have ran as quick as low 15s in the last of the SN95 shape.
The 4.0L is normally around low 15s, and some have scraped into the high 14s.

THey dont make a Monte Carlo anymore and im pretty sure they (GM) no longer sell any cars with the blown 3.8.

Although the last cars they did make with that engine (the Carlo and the Pontiac GTP) were as quick as high 13s

The Pontiac Grand Prix GTP never got close to high 13's. The latest iteration, the GTP Competition Group, with 194kW from the blown 3.8, did 6.6 sec to 60mph and 15.0 down the 1/4.

Sorry I meant GXP, which the mags got as quick as 14.3 and owners hit high 13s. It was as quick as a Mustang GT

Give me a minute.

And its got a 5.3litre V8, not the 3.8 S/C V6 you were talking about earlier.

The V6 iI hired back in 04 looked like a cut down Windsor with crossover inlet manifolds.. Went through fuel like a Holden red motor and had about the same power...
Btw the Mustang is a cheap runaround car... It usually gets its upgraded engines way after Lincoln family etc....
They "badly" need better vehicle platforms there !!!!

Dead right, though I did see a collegue get a Monte Carlo as a hire car from Hertz which was probably the 3.4L model.

Latest sampling from the General in terms of saloons is the Impala.
211hp 3.5L V6 in the LS/LT (Most likely model for renters).
