An interesting article from ABC mentioning diesel particulate emissions being carcinogenic.
There's a push in Europe away from diesel engines, some cities are proposing bans of diesel passenger vehicles in the future. Watch this space. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-1...fumes/10209762

Nothing new here, World Health Organisation moved diesel fumes from the probable to proven category for known carcinogens about 5 years ago (2012 ish)
I guess there is a price to pay for great fuel economy (for those that travel 100's of kms between towns in this vast country...) |

Does a DPF mitigate the risk?
There's even talk now that PPFs (Petrol Particulate Filters) should be fitted since those fumes are also bad for you.

Some new petrol engines need particulate filters due to having direct injection. When the latest emissions regs come in, I think you will see most DI petrol engines needing it to pass.

Guess Joe Jackson is pretty right. The odds of contracting cancer are similiar to getting killed in a car crash!but you have a much much higher chance of survival than a fatal car crash
