wheel clamping could be a great idea
would save tow and impound fees and would punish the owners as they'd always be looking at the car thinking "damn i wish i could drive it" but yeah another hoon loop hole fixed i dont know about impounding a persons car and taking it if it aint the offenders ride though how is someone meant to know that, that person would commit a offense in their vehicle? |

ah i remember a friend a while ago was supposed to have his car taken off him for "hoon" behaviour but the cops couldn’t take it because it was under finance and therefore they would have to pay the finance company out, which doesn’t happen, so there’s one way around it if they haven’t changed the laws since then.

Bull S**t. They can still take it. The owner has to pay the loan still while the police have it, however, the police can not sell it.

Hate to say it, but this BS law will not make the roads safer. It is just another way to make money.
Wheel clamping will now be available for non-fine paying people too, similar to what is overseas. However one can see these laws being abused somehow, but with the installation of CCTV in some TMU cars in Victoria that will be of a lesser issue. Big brother is watching, we're slowly turning into america.

Booting cars = turn ing into america? Where's the guns in schools (minimum 2 guns per child), AK47 weilding postman, leaders that poke fun at blind men, no healthcare system, etc etc...
I think booting cars is too extreme. I don't think parents should be punished to that degree... I mean, why can't they ban repeat offending hoons from driving for ever, or ban them from registering a vehicle... there is better ways to go about this... IMO

Lol don't be fooled, guns are on the rise in australia, more then you think.
We nearly lost medicare too. IMO the better way to go is concentrate on real crimes which result in more loss to the community then some drivers who have never really hurt or killed anyone. Where are decent sentences for true crimes? Yes some serious hoons who drive old clappers and have no regard for any law should be dealt with, but this deals more with car enthusiasts, which is wrong. I just hope the laws don't get abused by police. Should be interesting come July 1, or the friday/saturday night after in South Yarra. As I said, slowly turning into america, and common sense shows this.

I think that more inspections on defects (mainly bald tyres, smoking cars, and not stupid stuff like too low, etc...), more red light cameras, not more speed cameras, and more rigerous inspections of road saftey/condition (eg. trees too close to road on bends), near smooth bitcimen on reverse camber bends, etc....

Precisely,
Some of the busiest roads in Melbourne are of poor condition, and some surfaces get the rough stones on tar crap treatment as opposed to proper ashphalt and sealed edges. All it takes is a slight camber problem on the road and a few potholes with a powerpole directly to your left and Bang! Oh no another speeder the media would suggest. Au3 Chaser - Good points & I agree.

True, they did take the car off him, BUT he got it back, might not have been clear, but what I meant was the last thing were cops take the car and sell it, this is what they tried to do to him but because it was under finance they could not take it PERMANATLY or sell it, woops
