Default 2015 XR8 on the strip for the 1st time.

G'day. I have bought myself a xr8 with a manual box and plan to do a few runs at Heathcote this weekend. My brother in law is taking his 6.2 Dunnydore with quite a few mods as a challenge (paddle shift auto).
Has anyone used the launch control on the strip and how did it go?
The car is stock except for a K&N air filter.
Cheers, Chris.

G'day Fiji. It was a fun day. My best was 13.3@110. But the axle tramp was horrid. The launch control was a bit disappointing too. I did better with the traction control off. Having said that I am stoked with the car and looking forward to more runs. Gotta get that tramp sorted first though, it's a diff killer.
Cheers!

I would love to run mine down the strip one day. You really only get a few seconds of legal full throttle action in these babies so a chance to let it run wild would be a bit of a experience.

Love the FGX XR8's - they look really tough.
Great times for first try.

It was a great day - very busy - burnout pad was packed as well and awesome weather.

We went 13.19 @ 104 in our EF 6cyl Nos Wagon

I had virtually the same experience as you. Admittedly it is the first time i had run a car down the strip. I found launch control bogged it down and it launched slowly. With traction control off it was better.. i found the clutch takeup was hard to feel and ran a few runs from a smoking shambles to moderate traction.

I can't recall my best time but it was 13 something. As far as axle tramp goes, mine didn't tramp at all, however i did a track day at qld raceway in the rain and it tramped terribly. As i understand, replacing the blade bushes with stiffer super pro or nolathane bushes fixes or improves the tramp issue

Do it! I always thought it would be boring driving fast in a straight line and stuck to doing the street sprints instead. But then I finally went one day and it was great fun! Unfortunately I've only been twice. Once in 07 and then again a few months ago. I will try and go again when it gets cooler.

I’d probably have expected better from a 6.2 with a fair few mods.

Hi Fiji, who did your tune? I just had mine done yesterday by the HPF in Dandenong. The stage 1 tune and I fitted the K&N airfilter. I ended up with 324 RWKW, up from 273. Tq went from 650N to 760. A different animal to drive now, especially under 2100 rpm, despite the Tq and HP curves identical until 3200. From around 3800 it really starts to sing.

Hi Mike, yeah it has a few mods. Cold air intake, 4:1 headers and large bore cat back pipes+the tune.
It is a fast car to ride in, I'm not sure why it didn't go a bit quicker. Knocking on the door of 12's though.

What type of dyno are they using?

Those numbers are 50kw too low. On both ends.

When I see 270 at stock it screams of insufficient warming up. Overboost will not kick in until the inlet temp reaches around 50C.

Here you go Merc. I'm still happy with the grunt despite the numbers.
Cheers, Chris.

HPF , Dyno reads low , they tuned my Ute and came in at 350rwkw had on another dyno and pulled 385rwkw . So don’t get to worked up by the numbers , if your car feels fast after tune it probably is .

Hi fiji, 8 runs in total.

Yeah thanks mate.

I wasn't disputing the numbers, just saying they are very low.

Was it a roller dyno? I see they did 8 runs, how many did they do for the initial 270 number?

It's all relative as you got a 50rwkw gain, but those numbers are off.

I've seen results like this before and it happens when inlet temps are too low (cold) and overboost won't kick in.

Maybe it's just a low reading dyno??

When you get a clean run it should pull about 120mph.
I'd ditch traction/launch control, I reckon it slows them down. Mine struggles to get off the line when I use it.
