I had the same problem and it turned out to be the leads. Cheap, easy fix

the coil is what the coil lead goes to bolted to the side of the motor under the intake manifold.
Another thing it could be is an exhaust blockage, I had that happen with my EA and the car would just die if you didn't take off with really light throttle, eventually it wouldn't start untill it had cooled down again. Had the exhaust and dizzy cap replaced and it was all good. I would try replacing the dizzy cap and rotor button before coil, also did you put in new plugs with the leads ? |

Run a diagnostic on your ECU before you replace any sensors.
You just need a piece of wire and a test light. I'm sure someone would have posted the whole proceedure here some where, if not go get the Ford EB falcon book and follow the instructions. (like $25 for the book at $5 for a test lamp) It's a great way to see whats going wrong. |

it still does the same in neutral but when you have some revs it revs up easy then when you let it drop to idol revs put your boot in and it chuggs!

hmmmmmm.....
sounds like a dirty injector. my dad has an ea wagon that did that, and we thought it did a petrol pump, got a new 1, $200, not the problem, new map sensor, not the problem. have u tried disconnecting the map sensor and starting the car?? turned $400 later it turned out to be a dirty fuel injector!!!!

hmmmm
is it the cfi or mpefi??? if it is the cfi its a $50 fix, but the multi point may be more. its easier just to put another injector in if that is the problem.

but u can also throw in the throttle body, it could be dirty aswell, or dirty air filter, yeah check the throttle body and the air filter!!!
sometimes, it happened to my falcon- multipoint- some dirt got into my throttlebody, and the car had bugger all power, and it was running rough as hession undies, so the easyist way to clean it is to take the throttle body off the car, and clean it out with some carby cleaner, or wd-40, and spray some wd 40 on the moving parts around the throttlebody!!!

ok, its not a carbi, easy mistake. you have the big bowl on the engine, with the round air filter??
its a single point injector, aka, cfi (center point fuel injection), the throttle body on your falcon i think, (does the center look like a 2 barrel carbi,) that is the throttle body. if it is an injector its an easy fix from pick a part, 5 mins up the road from me, but alot further for u my fine feathered friend!!! your car only has 1 fuel injector, which is an easy fix, bout 15mins.

the first thing u do is check to see if the petrol pump is working, ur straight petrol, or r u duel fuel??
turn the ignition on, but dont start the car, and listen to the back of the car. u should hear the petrol pump. its sort of a high pitched humming sound. for about a second then it stops. if u hear that mate, it means everything there is cool. in a way. that means its somthin under the bonnet. have u got a service manual for the car, like a haynes or a gregories manual???
