XR5 LV Focus now 9 months old. Only done 8500ks.
I was getting 10.8/100 up until a few months ago when it slowly increased to 11.3/100. Yes. I'm using the air con, but I was using it just as much back in December/January when I got the better figure. The tyre pressures are right. The traffic is about the same and I really didn't put THAT much weight on over Christmas! Any ideas why the increase? I thought it was supposed to get better as the donk loosened up. I possibly started using a different petrol station at around the time it changed - but it changed over a period of about 6 weeks rather than within a tank or two if it was crap petrol. I'm using 95RON all the time. Is this a sign of trouble? |

Its still within the limits though and really 11.3 isnt bad
That said my 5 has only ever been run on Ultimate and is tuned and it just jumped to 10.1 I dont think its a sign of trouble

DJM83 - OK thanks for that. I was wondering if one of the sensors used to feedback to the engine management system might be out of wack, but I guess they'll pick that up when I get it serviced soon.

Mate I move from 10.8-11.1 regularly. Might be a case of right foot syndrome? ;)

Mine's been holding steady and 11.8 for the last few weeks. Sat at 12.5 for a while
And that was running on the stock tune too. I should check my air filter, make sure it's not full of bugs or something.

Ours is running at about 10.3
Has 12000k on it. The longer you let it stretch its legs, the better the fuel consumption. Was into the 8's on a trip away.

Alright kids, I did an experiment to and from home. I drive in pretty heavy traffic and like I said above, I get 10.8-11.1 normally.
In the interests of pure knowledge, i decided to change my driving style a bit. I started by accelerating smoother and changing in between 2500-3000rpm. I also read ahead more and anticipated traffic flow. It's a good 20km drive each way, so average consumption is pretty accurate (not like a short drive). It was a more relaxed drive and felt great. Below is the result. It's been a while since I've seen single figures! I reset the usage this morning before I left for work. It was at 11.1. reading was taken this evening when i got home.

That's excellent consumption considering my wife's 2010 lv mkii focus is always on 11.1l/100km. It is auto and she hammers it. We also live in a hilly area.
