I have heard somewhere that ford (or FPV) has been thinking about bringing back the GTHO. I could not find anything on this on thhe web, so i was wondering if anyone could confirm this.

Come on lads, a genuine question asked at the best Ford resource in Australia deserves an answer, not ridicule. Where else does a bloke go to get an answer??
As you can probably work out babyf6, this very matter has been discussed once or twice before. There is always rumors about the GT-HO making a comeback and the new 5.0 package certainly looks like it would be an easy step up a a local supercar but there is no substance to the rumors. They just flare up every couple of months then simmer down again. I think we all hope that Ford/FPV will surprise us one day, but I don't think very many would be holding their breath. |

But in all seriousness it would be nice if they did something before falcon morphs into whatever fate decides. And atleast a year before so it has a chance to sell...LOL

It is. They're predicting top speed in excess of 200 mph.

It may not have the "HO" badge, but that is as close as its going to get. |

As much as it would make zero business sense it would be awesome to have that 5.8 in the Falcon. If it wasnt for the gap between our 5.4 ending and this thing starting why the heck would FPV bother with there unique version again?

The 5.8 is based on the 5.4. Wasn't there some emissions regulation or something that is forcing the 5.4 to end production in Australia?
The 5.8 doesn't have variable cam timing like the 5.0 does. There's an excellent article on the new 5.8 in the current US issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords. Is that magazine available in Australia? The same author, Tom Wilson, previously wrote very in-depth articles on the new Coyote 5.0 and the Roadrunner Boss 302 engines. (By the way, the code name for the new 5.8 was Trinity, which was also the code name for the US's first nuclear test.)

Mate if you havent noticed aussie's in general dont really care how the power is produced as long as its effective, this is the only way I can see a HSV being justified.
I understand the 5.4 was finished off via emissions, but the engine had other characteristics that didnt really cut the mustard anyway. The 5.8 would well and truly sort those issues out. Its Al block yeah? No idea about the magazine mate, but I am well aware of coyote and roadrunner and its painful that we dont get them aswell.

Americans don't care, either. I'm just speculating on why the engine may not be allowed to make it to Australia.
Believe me, we were all jealous of your Boss 290. Yes, aluminum block. And 15 psi of boost (up from 9).

I'm not sure you know the significance of a GTHO. They are special for a reason. |

The current FPV 335 embodies the spirit of GTHO, those four letters are a scourge on Ford's back and always will be because of the continuing mind set of fans who put "GTHO" on a pedestal and sadly, refuse to identify with modern products, nothing will ever be good enough in their eyes... The expectations of fans are so high that nothing, repeat nothing could ever wear the name. As for people who actually shell out $77K for an FPV GT335, I tip my hat to you for being the custodians of the true Ford motor racing spirit. |

There will never be a GTHO resembling the legend back in '71, BUT, a sophisticated package with large rear tyres and 351 SOMEWHERE will do most of us. Oh, did I mention it would have to be the fastest, best handling, best stopping Australian made production vehicle................EVER....................... . .

But weren't the originals supposed to be raced "as sold to the public?"
Does that not make them phenomenal street cars?

Yeah I can see where you are coming from, but GT's these days are not made with any type of racing in mind. They are built to meet durability criteria but certainly not prolonged circuit use. Actually I believe the warranty paper physically disintegrates once its within cohee of a track.
FPV is not alone on this though, it would be hideously expensive to properly engineer a car these days to met all track requirements, while passing enviro, gov, safety etc regs too.
