Never ran it and never will......

Good for a track car but not a streeter.....Very unpredictable. If you are after serious power look at a Supercharger or Turbo.

As you know, they call NOS the poor mans Supercharger!!

NOS has it's place, just not on the street.

Exactly correct. On the street its bot illegal and stupid. If its for the drags though it would be very interesting and something I've considered in the past. If done right it would certainly be a wild ride!
The stock AU I6 can handle about 100hp shots apparently, good for a full second off your ET.

Dont worry mate.. Norton is running LPG so he cant run it unless he has the new injected LPG system.. and even then its a finely run thing as fuel delivery is still not stable enough.
Cant?? Well, given that LPG is fed in by the air intake system (thus displacing "space" for air with the LPG) and NO2 is taken in the same way (thus displacing "space" for LPG with the NO2) there is simply not enough of an intake to bring in fuel, NO2 and air all at the same time and keep it stable.. even with forced induction.. lean out.. bang!

So long as you are only running it for the track it is simply a chemical supercharger and has some very good points to it.

One of which is it's also called 'laughing gas' so if it develops a leak in a street car and you're with a new girlfriend......... Nah, I'd better not go there.

It will put you on the edge of sleep and you will crash... or not perform.

NO2 on the street is stupid, illegal.. and makes you impotent. :

dont worry about the stripes.. with that body kit you have enough lift to take off.. and enough fiberglass to be considered an airborne terrorist threat!

If its a WMD I think you should see a doctor.. its not meant to blow things up. You do live in ACT admittedly.. but even with that amount of hot air escaping you should still see a specialist. I think they have nasal technology now.

wasnt this topic covered, and locked up to be thrown out the window, just last month? the bottom line is, dont do it! its illegal unless its a racer only. besides, its a ricer thing, not for a real car! forget NOS, go with forced induction, far better (and cheaper) in the long run.

I'd hardly call it a "ricer thing". What it is is dedicated track only. You simply cannot use it on the street. Therefore the ET's you run at the track are not indicative of what the car is really like on the street. As most of us run street cars that go for the odd race it is generally looked at as a "false mod".
That said though, as long as its set up right and is ONLY for the track then it is an efficient and cheap form of supercharging that is very, very capable of giving one hell of a power increase.

Follow my workshop build and I will show you how a supercharger setup can be more affordable!! http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=93606

As I said, for the right place and right time (Race Track) NOS has a place.....

I would never use it due to the LPG setup I am running and due to the premature wear it causes...... A broken engine from NOS would work out dearer then a supercharger or turbo in the first place.

I have seen a couple of well setup NOS engines in my time, significant dollars were needed to allow consistant use of the stuff, just not my cup of tea!! I would rather spend the money on Forced Induction.

You asked for our experiences with NOS....Here it is!

Ok first things first fellas. NOS is legal to have in your road car. Your allowed to drive around with the bottle in the car and everything as long as the bottle is shut off at the valve and the hose is disconnected. As long as you don't use it on the street your fine.
So all this talk of the car having to be a racer only is false at least in VIC and I think SA, WA as well. As far as I know its only NSW and QLD that ban it.

Secondly, I'd like a fast car for the street but there are a lot of hassle making a supercharger or turbo setup emmisions legal if you don't wan't to run straight gas. Also if my cars not road legal its not insured either and I don't want to lose my pride and joy which I will have put a lot of money into because its not insured in a crash.

So I think I'm gonna stay N/A for the streets, put NOS on it for the race track and reconnect the NOS hose when I get there and dissconnect it and drive home when i'm done. Then in a couple of years time when I buy a Orion I will puta dirty big turbo on the AU and trailer the bastard as a dedicated track car.

Initially - no.... In the short term - maybe......In the long run - yes.

It will all be based on how difficult it is to do. If I need to go dedicated LPG to make it easier then I will.

Engineered will be no problem as the kit will be sound, it's the emission test that is expensive.

On the insurance side, if I was ever involved in an accident, the S/C belt would come off, the car would be flashed with the non S/C tune and it would then be a non S/C vehicle.....Well this is the plan anyway.

I would like to do it all correctly, having said this there are a lot of cars running around out there with Superchargers and Turbo's.....Are they all engineered and emission tested?

Thanks for the reply norton

i did some research and you could probally count them on your hand. I spoke to snort performance and he told me that he is pretty sure that no one whos has purchused his kits are legal so yeh thats why i have dicided to hold off with doing my car i have the money to install but not to make it legal so i have dicided to hold off for now.

Thanks Jake

Nitrous oxide is not a poor man's blower, setup properly its cheaper, more reliable and a bigger rush than a blower. Its just so easy that people whack it on anything without any reseach or work. You have the advantages of a perfectly behaved n/a motor 95% of the time and the power on hand when you need it.

don't see it as a "rice" thing, nor a false mod. Sure its only for the track, but so are all mods unless you want the police on your back
