Do they work? In the description, it says key can be cut by any locksmith/key cutter. But I doubt it. Anybody know the story bout getting another key made?

I asked Ford about getting another key for my car and basically he said they are really hard to copy unless new..
Don't know how true that actually is (he was trying to get me to buy a complete new lock set for the car instead) though.... I personally wouldn't be buying any keys off of ebay..

Well, when I bought my car, it only came with one set of keys.... So I had another key cut and programmed for my Ford dealer for around $170...
So I guess you can buy blank keys. As far as complete lock sets, I'd be telling the dealer to go jump.... |

If you have the key code they are easy to copy. its just a matter of re doing it, which Ford dealers have access to.
So if you go to the dealer with proof of ownership they should be able to make you a new key without having to replace barrells etc.

Most decent locksmiths can cut Tibbe keys... It's just a matter of either knowing the code or having a key to copy from.

The problem with mine was that I only had the one key and it was extremely well worn.... So was told by a Ford dealer (was on the southside of Brisbane) that they could not guarantee that the copy would work properly and that once it was cut then I had to pay (even if it did not work)..
Hence the pushing of buying the complete lock things for the car... Needless to say, I did not buy any new locks for it and I am still using the old worn out key..

Some places actually "read" the cuts (there are 6 different depth cuts IIRC) on the key and cut the new one using a guide on the machine

Can one of the guy's in Wagga check Riverina Safes & Locks in Berry St (6921-3517) . We got 2 spare keys for the wife's ED Fairmont cut there a couple of years ago (or are you talking a different model ? ), I'm probably VERY wrong , but I thought it was $30 or so each because we wouldn't have had much more cash than that on us (will check with the Mrs)..... The guy "Looked at the key" , wrote down the code ( 1 letter 6 numbers , I have their card in front of me) said come back in an hour , all keys work great.
I'm sure we asked at the local dealer & the guy in spares (who I know) told me if I was in Wagga anytime to go there because his were too dear.

Sorry forgive my ignorance, how do they code the keys, do the just stamp or engrave a number on the key?
Because $150 is damn expensive for my EB I had two new keys cut from the old well worn one for under 30 bucks each. Because it was so worn he cut the key, tried it in the lock, then took it back inside cut a little bit more, tried it again and it was perfect. I went to the for dealer first and he sent me to this place cause he knew their prices sucked. |

It cost me $20 for a copy of my key for the EL. You'd think that Ford would be able to find the combination of the key and have one made up via information such as the VIN
