head unit installation....

hey guys/girls..

need some advise concerning headunit installation, going from double to single din, what have you done ? covered up the hole, fitted something from another model under/above cd compartment etc ?

also, does anyone know where to get the adapter plugs so i dont have to worry bout re-wiring it all... that would be handy, not a must have, but def a time saver!!

Simple Job, I did it on my AU Ts50

Just got a pocket to fit underneath

Carnt remember that main car sterio place up on the sunshine coast there behind the Sunshine Plaza shopping centre, but they should have a pocket for you.

In regards to re wiring, I would run new speaker and power cables anyhows

yup, use a pocket insert to cover the second din slot.

try places like autobarn/supercheap auto for the addapters.
they're made by aerpro but are only available for certain brands.
they also may have to order one in, i had to get one to install a kenwood cd player in my parents AU, straight change over (10 min job)

yeh i was gonna run new speaker cable,

in rewiring i meant pulling apart the old harness and wiring it into the new one, if u know what i mean..

put the crossover for splits ? tucked up under the dash ? behind the hu, in the door...

cant imagine where ot put it safely...

Well im glad you asked.

Just finished installing my new splits in my doors sunday. I mounted the crossovers in the door trim as you will see. Speakers are Rockford Fosgate, Power, 6X8 Splits.

how do the tweeters sound there ? i have had several spots in mind.

dunno if i will be able to do a bang up job like that for my crossovers

yeah tweaters sound alright there, i was goin to put them on the a pilliar and get factory grillls ect but decided aginst that... says in the book to put them within 2 inches of the mid or further then 7 inches from the mid, so yeah.

I'll let you no exactillly how well they sound in a couple of weeks when they are run in a bit more.

GRR!! i dont want to have to build out my 6.5" splits, i want them to fit in the factory location easily! bugger..

they are MB Quart somethign or others, cant be bothered looking, they are sittign in my room with my sub and amp all waiting for the head unit to arrive so i can put it all in. how do u have to install it to make it all fit all nice and neatly ???

well depending how deep ya speakers are you should just be able to make up an mdf spacer to go behind the speaker, screw the speaker in and away ya go.

Not that hard realy.

It's a Rockford Voltmeter, Shows voltage of my rear battery and has led's around it that as the subs go harder the leds beat and glow from green - orange - red...

Just a **** factor thing, but i love it. But i do also need the voltage gage so i can tell if my back battery is charged

I was gonna start a similar thread to this, but thought i'd just continue this one

Anyone got more pics of Aftermarket Head Unit installs on an AU2 falcon? I'm planning on finally starting/finishing my system which I'm hoping will consist of an Alpine 9831 Headunit (mmm), with either Type R or Eclipse front splits going through the 4 channel MTX amp and MTX 12" sub.

I'm kinda scared though, with the curve of the AU2 Falcon dash, it's gonna look like shit. I don't want to "just" get a patch panel thing to cover the gap, I'd much prefer a little CD holder which can hold 3-4 CDs so when I wanna change CDs, I won't need to drive into my massive *** CD Wallet. But with the curve, I don't want it to stick out or anything...

So yeh, can people post pics of aftermarket HU's in an AUx Falcon

Also, Is there any quarms with ripping out the dash/doors etc for fitting the Head Unit, splits and wiring? I'll most likely be mounting the tweeters on the front corner tip of the door facing inwards. My mate and I are planning on doing it one weekend, and he is good but never done an install on an AU Falcon. Only on a couple WRX and a Mirage.

i pulled apart me car ( well sorta . .. ) to see what i would be up for in terms of installation, falcon should be a simple plug and play event!!

PLENTY of room in the doors etc etc to play with wires, door trims and A piller trim comes off easily. should def not have any dramas, that i can think of however.

pulling the seats out surely wouldnt be hard, and the rest is history...

now i just gotta save for a new deck ( damn parents wanting back that cash of theirs that you "borrowed", it would seem borroed means you have to give it back, no one told me this! )

ill get a whole host of pics when i do my install, to help others etc etc...

Pretty much the only thing is the AU1 pocket, and from memory is a differnt colour to the auII and auIII, so you may have to paint it for better results...

The rest is pretty simple realy, just watch the depth of ya speakers for the front doors...

What size speakers come standard in the AU's (AU2 Forte/Futura)? (AU2's look like good value, I'd consider saving the extra, and getting one when I upgrade, instead of an EF)

5x7's are standard, the front can take 6.5" easily if you make a spacer out of MDF

I have some JL Audio 6.5" splits in the front, was a simple task with some 6mm mdf, they arent real deep tho
