Rare AU2 5.0 Mont Wagon for sale.

Just went and looked at this car and its immaculate, salesman reckons he knows someone that wants 12k for one..... IF I had the money I would buy this car today...These have factory fitted headers which I did not realise? Can anyone tell me how k's the 5.0 is capable of doing..... This car may be collectable in a few more years?

Great car and would appeal, but just that its now got over 260k and is 13 years old would put me off. Remember the mileage you do and the years to come owning the car adds to what it already has done. It might be good bodywise, but I'm thinking more the mechanical side with the perishable seals, rubber hoses, cooling system etc.

The most sort after characteristic of a collectible car is originality.

That one has been converted to dual fuel so it falls into the same group as a GT with the wrong engine number converted to manual and repainted a different colour.

In saying this it is the last of the V8 wagons so if you want it grab it but don't expect it to be worth $gazillions in 10 years.

I wouldn't quite put it in that category, I can have the BBQ fuel pulled out and back to completely standard within a couple hours.

In fact, that's exactly what I would do.

I think these days the BBQ fuel conversion is a great advantage on a car like this..... Check out this classic below that also runs a V8 and BBQ fuel..

I thought that if a car was converted to dual fuel under the subsidy it could not be converted back legally.
Otherwise anyone could make a small fortune converting a different car every week then converting it back and using the same bits to do the next one.....

Horses for courses and another thread, but I think dual duel systems are garbage.

I've done it twice in the past, both within the last 10 years.

It wasn't even brought up come rego time.

Hmm, why are all the petrol only ones double to triple the price?

If you want the AU buy it because YOU want it not as an investment. If it was really a highly sort after vehicle it would not be $6990 and still on carsales (and in the dealer's yard).

He has advertised finance and extended warranty available if you need it.

i like that a lot, au wagon even high k's very little suspension maintenance to do(no irs) and the live axle is cheap as chips to modify/repair , 4 speed auto .....cheap as chips to refurbish, v8 windsor .....same , on bbq gas = win win , i would add that one to the fleet if i had spare cash/space/was allowed

Your thinking wrong.
Of course it can be converted back legally. Also your just assuming it was converted under the rebate scheme.
The fact that you can only put a rebate claim in every 2 years and have to have the paperwork signed by the installer as both "SUPPLY & FIT" the system to get the rebate stopped people from pulling gear out and putting on to another car and claiming it again.
Nothing to get into a flap about.

To get the LPG rebate, the vehicle it is going into must never have run on gas before.
In 08 I fitted a second hand LPG system that I bought for $50 complete into my XE project and had it certified for $1000, I then claimed the then $2k rebate making a profit of $950 my way.

The wagon in question is tidy but as its priced way above what AU's are worth.
The colour doesn't help.

If u don't need a wagon I would look for an AU Fairlane, they can be had for sub $6k in yards in comparable condition.
They are a lot of car for the money.

It looks like a good example, but I don’t think they will ever be worth that much.
There will be a small percentage that want a V8 wagon but ultimately there is a reason not many were made. let alone one with 200K plus on the clock

Nah that ones been fooled around with too much with non genuine bumper and skirts etc..... I like mine better.....Not sure why people dis the LPG so much, V8's are expensive too run these days at $1.60 ltr?

I don't normally like them being messed with either, but I much prefer black over the gold, and could probably live with the kit on the black one.

I'd take either in a heartbeat for the right price.

Personally I think they're both 2-3k too much right now.

Yep, best gas tuner in Adelaide, retired now though.

I fitted the Impco 200 mixer, Impco 'L' model Convertor and associated intake and coolant plumbing, they just put the tank in and hooked it all up.

The vehicle was running straight gas, all the petrol system was removed, the injector holes plugged and it was delivered to him on a trailer having not been started since a rebuild.

I have to admit, i have a soft spot for the au wagons with the tear drop headlights, it is best looking big ford wagon made imo, and the black one does look pretty neat even if it is a little bit less practical with the body kit on it.

Collectable? Appreciate in value? I dont think so. One only has to look at what the older V8 wagons are worth - like the last of the XE V8 wagons, or even a nice XY V8 wagon - very little compared to their sedan counterparts.

My guess is the gold wagon was traded in by nan & pop. That's why it looks nice on the outside. It's probably had the guts torn out towing a Jayco. Alas the reason they bought a V8 & put gas in. Probably chewed the original wheels out on gutters too so the suspension would be loose as a goose!

Only a handful of TS50 ever got alloy heads.
Otherwise every Windsor had cast iron ones.

Oh, and if you look after them, they'll last as long as you'll need it to...
