I'm going to spend $380 on the one worn piece, is it worth it? Of course not

No, it's not worth it. Leather sucks. Only wannabe tools want a leather interior.
I'm serious. Cloth is where it's at. It's Australia FFS. Leather, too hot it summer, too cold in winter.

Thats true on the climate front, but your kids vomit cleans up so much easier off leather. The back sweat in summer is horrid. My car has black leather. The wifes is cloth. Her car has that underlying you have a kid odour to it. Mine doesnt.

Leather is easier to keep clean and personally better than cloth.
To answer your question, 380 does seem a bit much, however if it matches your trim, and your car is in good condition, you are likely to keep the car a long time. Then 380 over the life of the car is not to bad. Does the 380 include fitting? Is it a large piece? Special pattern? It all depend on a lot of factors. I have just bought a full leather interior for a ba XR for $550. A little worn, but a lot better than the cloth interior. Unfortunately you can only make you mind up if you want it or not. I would never have a car without leather interior ever again.
Longevity and ease of cleaning aside, I hated the electric shocks I'd always get getting out of the car in the 5 years I drove a BF MK2 XT with cloth interior! It was funny the first couple of times, but 10 times a day for 5 years wore REALLY thin. And they friggen hurt!

Cloth for me..I find it far more comfortable.
The main problem with leather is it wears really fast...looks terrible after a few years, even less if you don't look after it. Cloth takes more punishment. Our fg xr6 has had 7 years of wife and kid punishment and still look fine.

Wow raptor ... this thread just happened to get my attention ...i am getting my whole car done in custom leather tomorrow ...
Looking forward to it too .... I have driven cars with cloth my whole life and finally reach a point to have something a little different .... I have been described as many things so I figure the compliments above can just be added to the list ... As far as hot summer ... I head into the surf a fair bit over the years and am planning to have a small portable seat cover for two front seats that I can pull out on hot days ...

OTOH, leather in Euros is generally pretty decent. I wouldn't buy a car without it. |

Leather is the way to go imo
A lot harder wearing and easier to clean up. my wives daily has leather trim and still looks like new after 10 years and never used seat covers on it either.

It's a personal thing I think...I'm 50/50.
I have a G6 and a XR6...some days the leather is nice other days it annoys me. Too slippery, squeaks, too hot, too cold. Stuff doesnt stay on the seat and ends up on the floor. Other days I prefer the cloth, especially for a fast/twisty bit of road. Well cared for leather looks better, but daggy leather looks a lot worse than daggy cloth. |

But for pure comfort whether you have leather or cloth seats, you can't beat 4 star Merino Australian sheepskin!

Cold in winter? Doesn't your car have a heater?
Hot in summer? Doesn't your car have ac? I've had 2 fg's, 1 of each, personally I think the leather doesn't look as pov pack but BAXRSIX, that's a different level, 1 that should never be gone to by anyone that owns a car that insurance companies classify as a 'performance car'! |

Leather is great when new after a few years not so good. Every time I look at a fg with leather and 100000km on the dash they look terrible. Cloth just seems to last a lot longer

i just put FG XR leather in my FG XT and it cost me $100, $150 for the trim and sold the old trim for $50
so paying $380 for a fix seems crazy! check the wreckers both my family cars have leather and my GT is cloth if you have kids, leather FTW, if you want to be comfortable cloth is king well thats my opinion

You're right to a degree. I love the leather surrounds on the seats of my F6 but hate the insert areas where you sit, I wish those areas were a nice soft leather suede and could be colour matched to the car maybe.

I love the premium LTD-spec Howe leather in my AUII. It's tougher than the standard AU Ghia leather and I find it fine for all seasons.

Anyone recall the movie "Commando", where at the beginning a car salesman was denouncing the virtues of leather, saying "leather's hot, it's uncomfortable, it cracks - nothing but trouble".
Yet the Cadillac he was "selling" came with vinyl anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB65qGFGZGw |

I swapped the interior for my car from factory cloth to leather. Haven't looked back...

Leather is cold for about 30 seconds on a cold morning. Body heat warms it. And I've never had the issue of leather being too hot. That's what ac is for. Some people are just soft as butter and whinge about every little thing.
Leather is so much easier to clean too, but does need to be looked after properly and the leather kept soft. Cause it will eventually dry out and crack if it isn't. |

Always remember a review on the worlds ugliest cars. The Datto 120Y was on the list with the comment 'ones bum would start to perspire just by looking at those vinyl seats' bwahahahaha!!!
Loved the Aussie vinyl cow comment |
