Hi guys
Need a little help diag an issue with an ED falcon. It's been sitting in the garage for the last 3 weeks and something's gone astray. Was driving perfectly fine before hand and no mech work done to it whilst it was in the garage. What the issue is, is it has no get up and go. Barely pulls up a hill and cough and splatters at idle. At first I thought it was low fuel as it had less then 1/4 tank. But fresh full tank of fuel has made no difference. Checked ignition timing and spark, all good. Air filter isn't blocked and there is no apparent vacuum leaks. Spark plugs were black and sooted up. So I'm assuming its running rich. Cleaned them up and first drive they were back to sooty black. What I have noticed is when it first starts in runs fine for first 10-15 seconds, then you hear the revs drop slightly and then it starts to cough and splatter. Short revs and its almost stalling. I'm assuming something might be wrong with the MAP sensor or maybe blocked fuel filter, however it's running rich and I cannot see any possible association with a blocked fuel filter and running rich. Any help, much appreciated! |

How many k's has it done?
Could be injectors gummed up, faulty oxy or faulty coil.

Just an update. Replaced oxy sensor, new plugs, leads, rotor button and distro cap. Checked ignition timing. Haven't changed the coil yet. Car has done just over 320,000k
Engine deffinetly running rich. Starts and runs good for first 30-40 seconds, then rpm drops to a slow idle and produces sooty black exhaust. Absolutely no pull up hill, car struggles and won't go past 30kmh in first gear, foot flat. Can hear a cracking and popping noise down the exhaust at idle. I'm assuming its unburnt fuel combusting in the catalyic converter. Edit: Forgot to mention changed MAP sensor also |
