Zetec let the 'cat out of the bag' this morning (SAT). As we were talking on the phone Zetec was driving and I thought he said FOCUSonThis was navigating. You lucky fellas!!! I don't think it was orange though.
What do I get if I'm correct??? I know, a ride in the A.R.C. Focus at the Rally of Canberra.

Well what an amazing day! Great Ocean Road with Adam as navigator and camera man, awesome weather, best car I have EVER driven EVER without exception.
Performance Blue XR5 Turbo (actually an ST this one) with blue cloth trim. Here she is. More pics of today to come, on Adam's camera (7 meg pixel vs my 2 meg pixel!!!) What a gorgeous rear end!!! Twin tailpipes look absolutely sensational, such a fat stance from behind. Very classy dials, even lights up well outside on the day. Sony 6-stack MP3 Head Unit, sorry for the low light. Same HU in more light but over exposed (was in a hurry!) Submarine lighting's subtle effect on the gearshift. Will look much better when I take a full night pic, it's so cool!!! The lights either side of the interior light. Auto on with headlights. Speedometer in MPH due to being imported ST. 260kmh speedo for Aussie spec. Yum!! Tacho... pretty self explanatory. Seems to cut out high 7's, don't really know, wasn't paying attention and only hit limiter once but was holding on for dear life. To be honest, it doesn't need to go anywhere near the limiter, there's THAT much torque! Very naff Boost guage... so cool!!! I am blown away by this car, it is simply stunning to drive, DAMN fast, brakes are insane, handles on rails, SO quiet it's not funny, seats are a dream, stereo cranks, it is PHENOMENALLY fuel efficient... (we saw 7.2/100km at 100km/h!!!!! Over all average for day was 9.5L/100km including all the Great Ocean Road and backroads. I still can't believe this. Running on BP Ultimate 98 RON). I'm just going to go and have a lie down... I think I'm going to be $40k poorer VERY VERY soon.... :

That's for sure. I've been driving all night and all day, I am simply blown awa y by this car. I am predicting a new BFYF winner with Motor, it's that cheap and THAT good. If not, it'l be DAMN close. Off to dinner then I'm off to wash the car for the 3rd time...!!

More pics coming. It's a UK ST, but close apart from speedo numbers it's virtually identical to the final product as far as I know.
In one word... I can't describe it. There isn't a word in the English language fit for it. But If I must... absolutelypositivelythemostamazingbloodythingihave everdrivensinceistartedbreathing How's that?!!! I am going to bed. Another day of driving ahead of me tomorrow!!!!

I'm NOT looking forward to my car on Monday that's for SURE.
Tonsilitis is currently trying to wring my neck, but I'm firing it off with Aspirins. Nothing will stop me from enjoying this!!!

Matt you lucky b%$#! I can't believe you just drove an XR5 along one of the truly great driving roads of this world. You have made me insanely jealous (and have now made the wait for my car even harder), so I think the least you can do is post some really good pics asap! I don’t suppose you got any in car video footage while you were tackling the fabulous twisties of Great Ocean Road?

Well the XR5 really is tempting me the more I read about it. Found an interesting table showing in gear comparisons between Golf R32 and BMW 130i and Focus ST (XR5)

Video footage we do have. I'll let Matt handle all them, but I will post up a few pictures for everyone to see a bit later. But I think I will sign my life away for one of these. I didn't even drive the thing and I was blown away. Hearing that turbo did make my day yesterday. Great drive it was, the car tamed the G.O.R, I couldn't believe how well it handled without ESP. Also one thing I have to say too is. YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE LOOKING...NOT JUST ONCE....BUT ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES!

Well, that settles it! Even I cant think of a reason to talk myself out of this car.
I'd ask for a quick fang but a) its your weekend, dont want to hassle you b) that tonscilitis sounds nasty, get better mate & c) it will be all the more sweeter having my very own in a few months time! {and d) I'm afraid of looking a dick stalling the manual 18 times in 20 minutes... : } |

Top effort guys! I'll expect my prize for guessing correctly at the R.O.C. I particularly like the RECARO seats. FOCUSonTHIS, Did I read in another post on the Forums that
you know about Focus seats? I've got a RECARO that is even more heavily bolstered than the XR5 that I believe it can't be fitted to my LR. Does this sound correct? If you can, pm me about this. Cheers.
