Post-AU is not the only victim to windscreen fogging. The E-series & X-series Falcons ive owned also display this trait. I daresay it comes down to more about climate than vehicle.
As for being a market flop, this only seems apparent in the face of the VT commodore sales. Remember the B-series sold less numbers. The media was initially in high praise of its looks, but did a 180 degree turn in response to criticism from some circles. As purely a reader of the article, it felt that the suspension issues were too "glaring" in the article, despite the saving face of mentioning it being an unmaintained example. If I were to promote the AUs excellent handling characteristics to an uneducated audience, id be more inclined to highlight its handling prowess with a functional suspension setup. The alternator issue was not worth a mention, since this is something that all cars are faced with at some point. The relevance of LPG maintenance extends more to the converter, which should be overhauled every 100,000kms. And the engine coolant, which supplies heat to it. Whilst spark plugs are a concern, most would see that a "fault" of some sort with LPG when compared to Petrol. If you focus on soley the LPG side, other maintenance requirements appear more logical. I am not trying to be a ***** by mentioning what I have, it's a very good write up over all. I'm just trying to imagine what the average numpty might think when reading it & deciding on their next second hand purchase. |

Duly noted and thank you for the feedback.
Having never driven an IRS equipped example ( which, from all accounts is a better setup than BA's Control Blade), or a normal live axle AU, I can't comment on how a normal AU handles. I suppose this is a caveat with reviewing a second hand car as opposed to a new one. Despite the extra maintenance of the LPG model, the running costs and torque mean it's the one to have IMHO. Perhaps I could've done more to emphasise that. Anyway I'm winning atm, so thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for your support and feedback who'd have thought an AU Falcon could generate so much goodwill.
