Exclamation SMART brand axed from Australia

No surprise. I always regarded them as way too expensive.

What a shame I bought one last year for the wife and it is a great little runabout. The wife loves it. Looks like we are going to have two collectible cars in our garage now ....

Here is a pic of them getting to know each other ... The smart is saying to the GT ...

"When I grow up can I be an FPV like you sir?" ...... haha

Cheers Mike

Always thought they wouldn't last. Whilst kore people live in the city, those with cars still head to the outer fringes of the city and want some space.

I think another reason they have stopped importing them is because there is a new model out in Europe where you see hundreds of them. You can even get electric ones over there.

Mercedes probably decided it was not worth all the hassle of setting up for the new model based on the very low sales last year of 108 Australia wide.

When we bought ours the salesman was chuffed as hell because it was the first one he had ever sold.

Cheers Mike

There used to be a guy who lived around the corner from me who had one, and was doing a commute into Melbourne with it.

He hauled *** past me in my Falcon with it once on the highway while I was on my way to work, it looked pretty funny.

I live in the country fringe so into Melbourne is a good 70km commute on the highway, I wonder how much fuel it used?

Top car. Don't have enough small streets in Melbourne to have fun in them.

They always looked to me like they'd be a barrel of laughs to drive. There's a lot to be said for a wheel at each corner and only just adequate power which forces you to wring it's neck and actually use your brain and work on your driving skills to get it to go instead of just mashing the loud pedal and screaming POWERRRR like a Clarkson clone and going fast in a straight line.

Then again I've always had a soft spot for oddball little cars...I'm looking seriously at a Fiat 500 as a replacement for the Celica in a few years time, just for a giggle.

Drivethrough service at laneway cafes?

In 99% of cities you would avoid dingy laneways, but in CBD Melbourne there is heaps of little cafes and food places hidden inside them

We get around 5 litres per 100km with ours in mostly just suburban street driving. On the highway it loves to cruise in 5th gear at 110 kmh. It has a 35 litre fuel tank and I have never put more than $30 worth of fuel in it.

It has just clocked over 3000 k's and is still going great. Wife loves it as it can be driven as an automatic. When I take it out I love to drive it manually with the flappy paddle gear changers.

Cheers Mike

That is the main thing I hated about the SMART. If it had a normal manual transmission I would consider one.
