Sunday Mail 4th Dec. Police are advising all motorists to secure their licence plates with non reversing screws. Licence plates thefts are out of control in Q. YOU are responsible for crimes committed with a car with your plates on, until you prove otherwise. This should apply OZ wide.

OK ... so what happens if you order new custom plates from RTA/VicRoads/whatever??? And you have to take your plates off to change them ... would it be impossible with irreversible screws???

Pop rivets (blind rivets) are the easiest way to secure plates. You can drill them out if necessary, and thieve's don't usually carry around a cordless drill. Here in Victoria, Vic Roads charge $56 or thereabouts to replace stolen plates, but only with a police report. It's a scam sure, but make sure you use "long" rivets as on some models (like mine) they have plastic inserts for the screws so you must go right through them to ensure secure fitment.

vicroads charged me $37 for 1 replacement slimline plate, but you can get a NEW set of two for $25...

Theft of registration plates will continue until the petrol stations change the way they do business. Pay prior to filling up!
Is rampant in suburb/area I reside in. Local Police Station/Council had day not long ago to supply and fit special screws.  :

I live in Doncaster, and in the weekly paper, and young morone was caught with a number of sets of number plates which he obviously had stolen. The kid was like 19 years old. Very smart of him.

Our justice system is too weak on real crimes...
Apart from using pop rivets, using hex faced screws or a combination of different types of screws usually help deter.

i suppose you can pot rivot them, and then when u wanna get them off you just to some careful drilling.
