When i push in the clutch and hold it and then put into gear while car is idling the revs drop down and the engine stalls. anyone know what could be the cause for this.

Sounds like the clutch is not fully disengaging so it is causing some drag which is enough to drop the revs down.
Does the car want to move forward at all if you take your foot off the brakes and then try to put it in gear?
