Default Headunit Removal HELP GRRRRRRRR

Hey all im in the process of getting the double din headunit out of my Au2.Ive made the stupid tools like it shows to measurement in the owners manual, and NOTHING,the unit wont budge!!! Im at the stage where something will get broken shortly.
Any secrets from people whove already gotten this piece of garbage out would be greatly appreciated.
Should i get the tool from ford to remove?

Are you able to reach your fingers behind it from underneath with the ashtray removed?

Had a feeling you could from when I did mine but i might be completely wrong

Try pulling the exposed ends of the tools apart (towards the doors) as you pull the unit out, it does take a bit of force/wiggling to get it out.. If you've got the tape deck and can get your fingers in there to pull on it, should be easier, i've got no tape deck so nothing to grip onto it with. If you've got an assistant there, get them to pull the unit out, while you pull the tools apart..

I couldn't get mine out until i cracked the s at it and used a fair bit of force.. Didn't do any damage, so you should be able to use a bit of muscle.. Once it's out and you can see how the clip works it'll be easier next time. I got the tool from ford it's got little knobs on the end of the wire, don't know if they help or not..

Good luck.

bwahaha.

It nearly came to that with mine after not even ford could get it out with their tools. Mine ended up meeting my drill though :thebirds:

After the fact, i found that the clip had broken and there was no way it was coming out.

Dont feel so bad about it.I did the same thing on one of those. Then I refused to do mobile phone radio mute for au owners with difficult removes of radio. It cost me 260 dollars to repair. I had the ford factory removal keys as well. They still did not help. Its just the crap design of the release mechanism by ford .Btw all au1 radios came out...just seemed to come about with a small percentage of au2 radios. I have done around 300 au radios.

When I finally maged to get mine out when I put a stereo in it, my anger prblem left the factory head unit sitting on the bottom of the dam next door. They arent the best design.
