Default Squeal from XR8 engine.

During a trip to the big smoke on the weekend my engine in the XR8 developed a very loud squealing noise from the synchronizer shaft ( where the dizzy is normally put), upon removal today if found the shaft was dry with a small amount of gummed up oil in the bush. Now here's the thing, there doesn't look like there is any way for the engine oil to climb the shaft for lubrication, so I would like to know of anyone out there if they have had the same thing happen & what repairs or mods were carried out as I would like to maybe do a rework so it doesn't happen again.
I haven't seen this happen to a V8 before, have seen it a couple of times on I6 engines with dizzys fitted.
