Default Making an ED stand out...

Hows it goin,

ive noticed with commodores theres alot of options to make their cars look different from a bog stock car, but with the ED there isnt much i can do to make it look different from stock cars. ive already got clear indictators/repeators, lowered and soon to get bigger rims, but the car still looks like a stock falcon. I just thought id post up to see if theres any ideas i havent thought of yet.

any ideas would be great,
Cheers

Other than what you have already done, the only other option is new paint like a two tone or something and then of course there is body kits to be considered? What makes commodores so unique?

You could get a new front bar. Something like a venom. Or fabricate your own stuff. Have a look through the project cars and show n shine and you will get some nice ideas

i dunno what makes the commodores look so different, but you can always tell the ones packing balls over the stock ones. dunno, maybe it is the body kits, but i havent seen a bodykit for the ED that looks good (no offence to anyone who has one of the bodykits) Does anyone have tinted taillights here? and have a pic of them?

to make and ed stand out, slam it on 19's. it will look better than any poxy commodore with a cheap fibreglass kit on it.

I would have to disagree mate. I'll resist getting on my soap boax here, but pretty much you just defined the meaning of the term 'RICE'.

Anyone can slap on a bodykit, add 'Bling, Bling' wheels and instantly every wannnabe and penile fondler around are of the opinion it's a tough car. Don't be fooled by cosmetics, nor drawn into the culture that bolt ons from Supercheap make you car individual.

Yes, they will make a difference to the overall appearance, but as already stated "dump it on 19s" is a good way to avoid the stock look.

Have you given any thought as to why crummydores need a body kit to look tough.

you're not looking hard enough
theres plenty of things you can do to make it stand out.

its harder to make a commo stand out because theres another one just like it around the corner.

you could colour code the bumpers and get the chrome strip inserts. always makes it look alot neater and different from most other ED's. XR front is also a good option but expensive. dumped on stockies is always a good way to stand out too :P

Here is my old ED.

Oh i 2nd that and then some... As already stated mate.. a set of 19s and a slammed stance will look so much better than a commonwhore with another bodykit....

yeah mine is lowered (superlows all round) and im going to put ultra lows in the back, buti still reckon there aint that much that sets it from stock. at the start of this thread i was also looking for minor little changes (tint taillights, custom back end etc etc) that people had done and look schimcko.

And i wasnt trying to say commodores look unique from one and another, but their ss and done up cars always look different to a stock car. once done up, they all look the same (normally same bodykit and even the same mags) but those done up cars can be seen from a distance and you know it aint gonna be a bog stock car

Agree on the bumpers/mouldings colour-coding. I notice this on cars on the road alot more than I would have thought, it cleans up the EA-ED shape so much. Pity I haven't done it on mine.

lowered and nice mags allways catches my attention.
i was sitting at the servo before watching cars go around the round about and noticed how ya could jus tell the people that liked their cars.
surprisingly more fords then holdens came through as well.
basically if your car has nice rims and lowered people will take notice of it way before a stock car.

think about this. if there is a stock car with nice engine and loud exhaust coming down the street. and right in front of it is an identical car only lowered and has mags. which one will people think has the loud exhaust? and hence which will they look at.

IMO side skirts give it a more distinct box car shape

If you got the cash, a nice set of deep dish billets will always set your car apart from the rest.

The two cheapest and easiest mods i done to my Ed Futura were
- headlight painting inside mod and front grille badge removal/mesh mod. If you do the badge removal/mesh mod PLEASE dont use the silver supercheap mesh... Looks tacky as!

I used an offcut of security door mesh from a scrap from security door place. Was black, stainless and finer than normal mesh... Wish i had some pics.

Something that hasnt been mentioned yet, is keep it clean. Make sure its always washed and polished, and everything that can shine does. A very clean stock car with wheels will always stand out more then a car that isnt looked after.
This is the cheapest and one of the easiest options!!

Paint is a massive 'stand out' feature in my book. If the factory paint is in reasonably good condition (ie, not many stone chips and scratches), consider paying someone to cut it back and polish it....you will be amazed how it will come out. Colour-coding also makes a car stand out. Colour-code all the side strips and front and rear bars.

A few other ideas - dump it on big flat-faced rims (19" GTP's for example - although they are pretty common now), detail the brakes, paint under the wheel arches matt black so it doesn't look all dirty and shitty under there, get rid of your spoiler if you have one, remove all 'grandpa pack' items (rear window shades, wind deflectors, headlight protectors etc), get a 4" stainless steel dump tip, tint the windows etc etc.

barnsy i agree. i like my car having side skirts.

i would prefer a different front kit tho. the stock ones go back to much in my opinion.

and i dont know why so many people dont like spoilers. i like mine. the back looks chunkier. which i like

You want to make your ED stand out?? Fair enough, I can empathize with that, but you have to take into consideration that there were 72,751 ED's made, so making one stand out to Joe Average is pretty difficult.

Most of the things mentioned in this thread will stand out to us, because we are all ford nuts, so we can see the minor things that make an e-series stand out. But will you average commodore driver notice these things??? Not a chance...

Exactly how much do you want to stand out?? Do you just want a nice clean street car? Or do you want to go all out?

If the latter is what you want, then I would suggest things like chopping the roof (Chop top or convertible), gull wing\suicide doors, airbag suspension, IRS conversion, 6 speed trans (auto or manual), and big cube engines with fancy forced induction... Catch my drift?

If a clean streeter is the goal, then lowered, body kit, nice paint, nice wheels, nice interior and a bit of poke under the bonnet is what you should aim for. There are plenty of examples of these kinds of cars in the club.

The best thing to do, is follow a theme of some kind, and stick to it... otherwise you'll end up with an un-coordinated mess...
