Default iPhone 4 compatible with Focus RS?

I drove a Mondeo recently and tried plugging in my iPhone 4 to listen to some music and it didn't work. I assumed it was to do with that particular car.

I'm in a Focus RS this time around and it's doing the exact same thing. Any idea if it's just the European system that's incompatible with the iPhone 4 or could it be something with my phone?

The tracks come up on the screen, but all I hear is that quiet static noise.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Did you just plug the USB in, or did you plug in USB and a 3.5mm plug? I have a feeling it doesn't just run through the Universal dock connector...i know that's the case with other cars with the sony head unit..

Smiddy, you may get an error on the screen saying 'This device is not compatible' rar rar rar. Don't worry though, the iPod function will still work. I've fitted the iPod integration into my XR5 and It works well.

Only thing is it won't have the phone options via the USB. Bluetooth should sort that though

Best thing I found is grab an old iPod video or similar, fill it with your music of choice, and leave it tucked away. Car will keep it charged and you only need to take it out when you want to update the tracks

Stuff the iPhone, I got a decent look at a new RS today...I'll be buggered if I'd be worried about the phone if I was warping one of those puppies around town!

What a beaut little car!

Pity about the $66K driveaway price though...

Thanks guys, looks like it is a Y-cable jobbie.

It's a bit of a rort really...nevertheless it streams over BT audio, I just have to be a bit selective when and where I change tracks as it has to be done on the phone!

Cheers,
