Firstly i would like to say THANK YOUI VERY MUCH to those of you who responded ot my previous thread. I have decided to take the advice that I should prioritize upgradeing brakes and suspension before power. I wish to up grade to all round disk brakes, is the costly and/or difficult? Am i able to use disc from a car with a 5 stud configuration, on my axles which only have a configuration of 4 studs ?? Any help on how to mount, or upgrade my brakes on my car would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers PS I have standard discs on the front, and drums at the rear. |

Probably your first step when upgrading your brake is to decide what you really need. Brake upgrades can be expensive and sometimes unnecessary.
Unless you are running a big power engine and using the car for motorsport, the standard brakes are more than adequate. I run a 130bhp pinto with standard brakes and have no trouble pulling up. Any more power and I'd upgrade to 4 pot calipers, vented disc front end. Next look at sourcing V6 Capri, 9inch drums. These are difficult to find but are less hassle than a rear brake disc conversion.....Pain in the butt, in my opinion, as you have to get a brake bias system hooked up and they tend to lock up the backs if you've not got it right. NOT a good thing. A great site is Spannerfodder as it goes step by step through a Volvo 4 pot brake conversion. This should pull you up ok until you fit the Cossie or BDA. |

track down some 3.0 capri front suspension legs and hub assemblies,they fit stright on a MK1,but you need to change track rod ends or the steering rack on a MK2. As whooligan says 3.0 capri drums work well and is an easy conversion.I have used sierra front discs on the rear of may escort with RX7 rear calipers.This is a simple conversion requiring 2mm to be machined of the drive shaft flange,then the disc fits over the wheel studs and drive shaft.A simple bracket can be made up to mount the caliper and welded to the axle case. Get new front springs(250lb) and rear springs re set with extra leaf (180lb about same as ford CD8).get the main spring leaf reverse rolled to make the car sit a little lower at the rear.get a set of bilstein or konis for the rear.Get hold of an anti dive kit or make your own.2x4 box section tube mounted to the anti roll bar mounts at the chassis then re fit anti roll bar with extra mount in the middle(to stop bar from flexing)I used standard 19mm roll bar but you can go to 22 or 24mm.use new nolathine bushes in roll bar,track control arms,steering rack and all rear springs.Can supply more info if required.Have fun with your gokart style handling & braking escort.

My Rs2000 track car has Volvo 4 spot calipers,TX3 turbo disks,datsun 120y master cylinder no booster and has a brilliant feel.
I did this conversion very simply and very cheaply,with new rotors/master cylinder and second hand calipers it didnt cost more than $400 +pads,and this car pulls up very well as I tested them for the first time a wakefeild park with standard pads last saturday and I am very impressed. |

I am on a quest to upgrade the brakes on my RS2000. I want to use standard available parts to keep the cost down. I also want to get rid of the booster assembly to get some room back under the bonnet. Can anyone elaborate on the details set out below?

I know this is an old thread, but can anyone tell me how i go about putting Tx3 disks. On my mk2 esky van ? any advice will be appreciated,As the disks are new as my son bought them for his tx than he sold it.
