FTG did have the XR8 Sierra - white with blue stripes. Not sure if he sold it, he was chasing around $30k.
XR4i's had a 2.8 V6 in the UK, as well as 4 cylinder versions.
Merkur XR4Ti's had the 2.3 4cyl turbo (like mine!) in the States.

There are also 4x4 variants.

Yep read about these in magazines in the late eighties, would these be the first ford with an xr8 badge?

I wonder how these V8 Sierra's went. Perhaps Dick would have had a bit more luck in one of these than the Mustangs he campaigned in the mid to late 80's

I think Group A, you had to have at least 500 built to qualify. Not sure that you can post production modify a car to a different engine and do that.
Turbo Sierras were putting out over 600 hp anyway so better to go with mainstream development, lighter front, better balance too.

Perhaps, but I think its the same 5L engine looking at the ad,
But the cosworth Sierra engine was pretty powerful

Yup, they had the Windsor 302, but as jpd80 mentioned, DJ wouldn't have been able to homolgate them.

Ironically, the only problem with the Mustang (homolgated by Zakspeed) he raced was lack of power, the thing was a very good braker/handler and I suspect the Sierra XR8 woudn't have been any better, although it was arounf 100kg's lighter.

i still have my sierra XR8 , they were factory built cars with 302w , with factory extractors & holley, T5 gearbox , Bigger brakes etc.
no air con or power steering on these cars , just factory built race cars.

Yes in fact, they were built by Ford South Africa but only 250 of them so not enough to qualify for Group A racing

From memory Dick had to run the standard cam and inlet manifold, so that seriously limited the power. CAMS rules of the day were rubbish, unless you were Peter Brock.

I think Dicks Sierra's were putting out more power than the world beating Eggenberger ones at the time.

Before then though, with the VC, VH, VK.

Dick used to joke that Brocky ran half a car because CAMS gave him so much.

Why has a post about a car that was never intended for Aus turned into a Brock/Dick affair....

If you have some interesting info about the subject vehicle please post it up, all the dreaming and wotifs just keep to yourself ok.....

Yeah! I’m not in the mood for forum dribbling, some interesting info on the subject vehicle would be appreciated alright!....is that too much to ask....??
