Hi everyone,
Kerry Packer's twin turbo XJS Jaguar which was modified to the tune of 895kw sold over the weekend for $217,000 dollars. In 1977 i was working at the Head Office of Taxis Combined Services in the garage department which was in Paddington. I worked Sunday in the garage from 7am to 7pm and late Saturday night a fire broke out at Rymec Turbocharger's which was across the road from where i worked. The building were Rymec Turbocharger's were was gutted the roof fell in which was a tin roof. i turned up for work on Sunday at 7am and they had a Security Guard posted at the entrance and Kerry packer's Jag among other car's were still inside. His Jag was rebuilt from the ground up it had to be, and it was green and not black when i used to see it. |

Great ol storey mate.....
I recall those days and from memory why he got the Jag modded. Typical KP got ****ed off some other car blew him off the storey went around, can't recall what it was but hence why he got it modded. Found this mind you : specially built by Gary Walker Jaguar in Sydney – one of the others was apparently built for Kerry Packer so he could beat his mate John Laws who drove a Porsche. and another useful link https://www.miragenews.com/kerry-pac...ng-for-604802/ Love how the guy operated egotist or not he was a classic ! We lost a top Aussie tycoon, man we need this kind of bloke today.

But it's not worth that because a Toyota Aurion had more inferior power and handling from factory

Saw it being worked on in about '78, down at Rushcutters Bay one night. Kerry's driver was there and told me it was diabolical in the wet. We went for a spin round the block to test the turbos.

Thought it would have sold for more than that. This thing would have been from another planet performance wise in the 80's.

As had been mentioned earlier, I don't recall it in black back then unless my age is catching up on me. I recall this was an article in either the good ol Daily Mirror or Sun about this. I agree Boss, I would have expected a higher price. Damn unique.

I remember that car very well.
It was built for Packer by a company called Rymec Turbo, who had a workshop at the bottom end of Glenmore Rd Paddington & they could never get it going well. The building strangely caught fire one night & the Jag was a write-off. It was auctioned & purchased by Gary Walker, the well known Jag Specialist & he got it going really well. He won various shoot-outs & other meetings. I lost track of it ages ago. Dr Terry |

Hi Guy's
Like i said on my other post that " i worked across the road at 357 Glenmore Road Paddington from Rymec Turbos. I use to see Packer's jag about 5 times a day going for a burn up the road and it was green in colour then. In the end curiosity got to me because at the time i didn't know that Kerry Packer owned that jag. I went across the road to Rymec's had a look at the jag then asked on of the owner's who owned it and he told me Packer. The morning after the fire which was sunday and i was at work a bloke came in to the garage that i was working at and said he just found out about it and beside's Kerry packer's jag being in what remained of the building so was his Ferrari. I remember talking to the night operator who worked from 7pm to 7am at the garage and he was on when the fire broke out. He was told by the Fire Brigade to shut off all the petrol Pumps because the heat from the fire they were worried that Taxi Combined may go up also. |
