Default Ford Focus engine cover

My 2017 LZ Focus titanium hatch has the Ecoboost 1.5 litre engine. It is fitted with a moulded cover over the engine. In some markets this cover is deleted, from what limited info I have it serves no purpose, other than, hiding the wiring for the electronic coil feeders. Ford cannot answer why Kuga / Escape models do not have this cover. Appreciate any suggestions. My concern is in our hotter climate this cover may cause a hot spot on top of engine!

Plastic engine covers are used for engine bay aesthetics but also to help suppress noise from entering the cabin. Directed injected engines like Ford's EcoBoost's are known for additional noise so these covers are desirable help mitigate this.

Some markets, or even some models in a range, omit the engine cover to save on manufacturing costs. For example, my base model XL Ranger has no engine cover but an XLT does.

I would not even bother worrying about it. It’s a non issue.

The engine cover is purely to reduce noise as part of the noise reduction package on some vehicles. Usually the lower spec vehicles don't have it and the higher ones do. So not having one is no real big deal.
