My Uncle puts me onto a guy who has an AU he's giving away. So I'm thinking why not. Apparently it's been left sitting under a tree after the battery went flat.
So I'm hoping it's not a Forte, otherwise it can stay there. Hoping it's a Fairmont maybe. Anyway, get there and find it's a 2000 series 2 Futura (poor mans Fairmont, rich mans Falcon), it's been neglected for about 6 months (but he kept the rego up). The tyres were still up so I said, yep I'll take it (gave him a carton of Coronas), chucked a battery in, fired up straight away, bit rattley til the oil got up, 188,000 kays on the clock, and drove her home, front tyres were shot, got some new ones. So here it is under the tree. Got her home, out with the vaccy, Kacher and air gun, pulled off all the rubbers got all the leaf matter out of the gutters etc, really bad under the windscreen and a few spiders. Ok so after some elbow grease and pulling off bits and pieces and down to the car wash bay to use the high pressure washer here's how she looks now. Engine bay before. After a degrease and some Fisholene, and some Armorall on the interior, a new steering wheel cover, as the rubber on the wheel was badly deteriorated from the sun. So there you have it, a free car, and I found a receipt in the boot for a new radiator and water pump 3000 kays ago, SCORE. The paint is a bit dodgey, especially on the roof, losing a lot of the clear coat from the bird droppings. My wifes car is a BA Futura, same colour so it's pretty freaky have them next to each other. So now the poor old XC is minus a battery and sitting in the car port conserving kays, big polish coming up for the Perth Ace Ford Cruise for the XC so that will be good.

The interior looks spotless. Nice pickup. For a slab of Corona's, that's a much better deal than this.

Great score. Bit more elbow grease, tune, oil and filter and a polish and she'll come up even better. Well done, congrats. If you look after her you could have the next 200,000 km's of motoring in a free car

Ok but does the aircon work??? lol
Good score but. Even if you sell it for $1500 a few months down the track it'll be worth it.

Why would they just give it away, cleaned up a little like you have done and its still probably worth 3 or 4 grand.
Good score. |

Seriously though, well done.....

Yeah thanks guys, 4 hours hard work and she's pretty sweet.
Yes the AC does work, bit of diff, bearing noise, but not worth worrying about. Oil change next. BossXR8, he was only giving it away because he can't be bothered. He has 2 other nice cars, lives in a million dollar home that he's sort of renovatiiong and just didn't have time. He asked his mates kids but they all said, nuh, too old looking.

The guy didn't have the code for the stereo, how do I get that please, any tips?
Do I just ring ford and give them the chassis number or something?

Ask your local Ford dealer, they should be able to get the stereo code for you. |
