Probably easier to remove the inner plastic on the LHS guard the thing that clicks should be accesable there it is a small box about guard height/bar height mine is factory fixed using some foam rubber cable tied around the unit this was the ford fix in 02 seems to work ok though.

Is there any way you can remove these canisters without any issues to the car?

Not to keep it emissions compliant. If you removed it it would get preety smelly too. Fuel vapour.

It will be the CANP (canister purge) valve opening and closing, It usually happens when the hoses are moved so the valve touches the chassis rather than be suspended in the air by the connecting hoses. Otherwise the valve is faulty. Follow the hoses from the canister and you will find the valve as it has two wires connected to it. You can confirm it's the valve by temporarily disconnecting it from the wiring harness.
