Default Gt, FPV, XR8. What's the difference?

People talk about these ford v8's without saying anything. Salesmen are full of codswallop (their comments are conflicting).
So, what is the difference between these current vehicles. No BS please, just facts.
If there is any diffence within each type please give them as well.

FPV Are a company, they make GT's, GT-P's Pursuits, Tornado's, Typhoons etc..
XR8''s 6's and 6T's are made by Ford...

Default Gt and XR differences

thanks for the links.
Differences, GT or XR8: HP 290, HP260

Brakes: Performance as standard or Premium as optional on GT
Performance is optional on XR (Premium is probably as well but Ford don't mention that.)
Gearboxes are the same. Basic tyres are different.
New price is about $10,000 more for the GT.
A better deal if interested would be a 2nd hand XR8 BA for around $30,000 and build it up yourself. (Unless you have to have that all important GT no.)

The 290kw Boss motors respond much better to bolt on performance modifications than the 260kw

GT is well worth the Extra $$$, better to mod as Cam has said although a XR8 is a great car too!

Doesn't the GT get better interior/seats/icc etc as well? Not to mention the different body kits and wheels.

That's right. Ofcourse a GT is better than an XR8, but by the time it's on the road, it's roughly $15 grand more. For $2200, I've got more power than a GT, and when I get some coil-overs for the front, I'll have far superior handling. Add decent brakes and I'll still be $10 grand infront.

From what my mate at the dealership says, it's a lot harder to screw money off the price of FPV vehicles too. We wangled $10 grand off the new price of my XR8, plus he threw in premium sound. The best discount he could give me for a GT was $5 grand.

When FPV can do to the Falcon, what HSV does to the Commodore, I'll change my tune. :

Not only that but resale is much better on a gt than an XR8. So you get alot more of your money back than trying to mod an XR8 and putting fake decals and stickers on it.

Got to admit though a XR8 with $10,000-15,000 spend on Mods is going to eat a GT in every area of performance.

The GT is better to Mod as i have said above but if my budget was $65,000 all up, i would take an XR8, spend the differnence and kill every stock GT in sight.

The FPV motors are normally hand build in a production line from blueprint parts.
The F6 for instance has stonger valve springs, additional strenghtening, ....

The earlier T-Series Cars were individually built with a little plaque showing the name of the builder.

i love xr8 i was an xr8 buyer but when i got a gt brand new for $6000 more than anxr8 with premium sound and upgraded seats . which were my requirements if i were to buy an xr8 . also alarm . i simplyt couldnt go past the gt as the standard seats are fine alarm standard, premium brakes standard, side airbags standard, better engine standard, wow factor standard . couldnt work out why someone would buy an xr8 and add. 18'inch wheels, alarm, side airbags ,. luxury pack ,premium brakes . for the same price as a gt .

mind you my dealer wouldnt drop so much on an xr8 . he dropped more on a gt . so maybe he thought he had a gt buyer and worked on it . just stateing that not many dealers reduced xr8s much at the time . and not many dropped on gts either.on the day i just got a better deal on the gt as it had just been ordered for demo purposes .so they sold thier demo the day they ordered it basically.

They are built the exact same way as the XR8 engine. I have gone down the production line and helped build 2 V8 engines, and it is exactly the same. The only differences is that, in each step the get certain different things depending on their build number, such as colour plenum cover, and anything else that is GT specific.

EDIT: To the original poster of this thread, the GT is an upmarket XR8 in simple terms.

Hey Wokkas, your answer is in line with my theory. Thanks.
All the other comments make my comment about iffy salesmen stand out. Opinions vary about what is correct, but somebody with a good brain (NOT me) could get the REAL facts and maybe have a sticky on the forums. Then if there is any contention on what is what, an expert can be asked.
Thanks for the replys anyway. Good stuff.
