Just like everyone else, I had to do it, succumbed to everyone here going on about it, and just dived right in and did it.
Went to a little exhaust shop today where the owner actually races off road cars, so I knew good work would be done. Dropped the car off at about 8:45am today, with the exhaust intact and looking like below. After this, the guy ripped out the rear muffler and one of the others, and replaced it with a better more free flowing muffler, and a slightly larger tip to fill out the hole a bit more. Picked it up a couple of hours later like this, not a huge difference from the outside, but definitely noticeable. And a bit closer up Sounds a lot nicer now as well, deep burble at idle, and as you take off its definitely noticeable, but when you cruise at the legal speed, its not noticeable again until you put your foot down, which is great, as it wont give off the typical modded exhaust drone that a lot of cars have. Overall I am extremely pleased with the look/sound and workmanship that this place has done. As you can see its clod wet and rainy here... 9.6C at the moment ! Chris

looking very nice indeed, im actually surprised a nicer tip doesnt come standard on the ST?
From what ive heard it seems the standard ST exhaust manifold is a very good setup too. nonetheless, mine isnt too far off being done too .

I love the look Chris.
It's not some ridiculous ex-nescafe tin hanging off the back. It's subtle. But for anyone that looks, they suddenly see this purposeful exhaust tip, which says.." I mean business". Love to hear your impressions over the next few weeks

Yeah the ST standard tip isnt the best but still better then the rest of the range.
The manifold and extractors etc are all designed by Cosworth, so they should be quite good. Stock it has a compelte S/S mandrel bent system which is quite nice for a stocky. Thanks mate, yeah i really didnt want to get a huge **** cannon on the back of the car would haev made it quite stupid looking thats for sure. Will keep the thread updated over the next few weeks to see how it goes, and maybe get some film and audio of it Cheers Chris

VERY nice Chris, couldn't have done it more tastefully. If you get a chance you know we're all drooling for a sound clip or two!!!

looking good Chris, the new tip certainly does fill out the cut-out better.
sounds like yougot an ideal set-up too, no drone is always a good thing...

Great stuff Chris. mind me asking where in SA you got it done? I've just ordered my partner a new Zetec.......hehe
Don't want anything too loud or that drones however. She still hasn't forgiven for putting a twin exit (left & right) sports exhaust system on her LandRover Freelander..lol

Matt: its 90mm from outside to outside and 75mm inside to inside, so whats that 3 3/4" or so if i work it out right.
CDAA: I got it done at Carline at Marion, in the Marion Industrial Estate part near harvey norman down there Cant say enough good things about the work he has done. You are more then welcome to have a look see / listen if you want to know what it sounds like before you do it Lol, i bet that Freelander sounded beasty hehe Cheers Chris

I may also take you up on hearing your Focus first when I'm ready, thanks mate. Not sure if the new Zetec has extractors or not but I would imagine it wouldn't sound too much different to your model.

some camera shops sell tripods that have suction cup mounts, which would fit the dash idea ok.

I'd just be aware that with the exhaust that close to the body kit, be careful on long hard drives where your exhaust can melt the body kit. I'm getting a new one fitted today because of this problem with the OEM kit. It was a warranty claim, but if you change the exhaust, you've lost that line of argument.
I'd recommend buying a spare body kit, considering they're so cheap. |

Yeah good point there, will have to keep an eye on it, never had any issues with the std on like you have, but will see how this goes.
Thanks for the tip Chris
