Default Introduction

Hi Everyone,

I'm a relatively new Ford convert. I currently drive a 2000 Mitsubishi Magna that has some mods to it but nothing too serious. I am selling soon to upgrade to a BA XR8 manual sedan, i can't wait.

That's all just introducing myself, look forward to chatting to everyone

G’day BA-XR8,
Welcome to AFF. There are quite a few members who live up your way. Be sure to post some pics of your car when you get it.

Cheers, Danny

ive started looking already, i know i should really wait until i get approved for a loan extension but ive been told ive got a good chance at being approved.
here in townsville its almost impossible to find manual xr8 sedans. i drove a ute last weekend and it changed my life. i just could not get over the torque these cars put out compared to what im used to anyway.
im more than likely going to head down to sydney when the funds become avaliable to find some down there.

well i was even seriously considering doing a turbo or supercharger upgrade on my magna, but i love the look of the BA series fords. i figured why spend all that money doing up a fwd car when i can just use that money to buy a car that has more power built into it from the factory.

once i get an xr8 i want to change out the exhaust or even get headers to give it a more throatier sound. and maybe some larger rims. all depends on $$$

interesting question. is there really that much difference in performance between the xr6t and the xr8.. im mainly after performance over anything else. that bonnet bulge and the sweet sounding 8 i also love.. but ive heard that xr6t are much easier and cheaper to get more power out of. is this true?
or am i in the wrong section for that kind of question?

there isnt much at all if they are kept stock... however once the mods start the xr6t is the clear winner.

good q that
xr6t vs xr8
im sure there has been a thread on this...are the turbos really that much easier to mod than the factory 260? I would have thought you could get more from the 8?

Welcome to AFF, enjoy the ride!

As for the modding XR8 compared to XR6T, in the past there has been more for the XR6T but that is rapidly changing. More development is now being done on the 8 and the difference is now less clear cut. Yes there are XR6T's out there in the 12's and down to 11's, but they have up to $20,000 spent on mods. Spend that sort of money on the boss and you have twin turbo (in the works now) or an awesome supercharged setup that will also run low 12's and into the 11's without trouble (with V8 soul). Don't treat the reputation as gospel, there are a lot of us boss lovers that are changing the tides, what an interesting time we are entering. The only important thing is between the two types of Ford power, we give holden a real kicking, all good!

well if people get a handle on the boss motor like they did on the ls1, there are going to be some serious 1/4 mile times run by xr8's etc.

I'll admit it my view has changed alot since joining here I could easily see myself in a Falcon in the near future V8 of course.

Hell I bought the latest issues of Street Fords and Street Machine's Toughest Fords could this be the begining of a transition to the Blue Oval crew?

I'll still love VLs no matter what car I end up owning after I sell it.

Sorry ba-xr8 for hi-jacjing your thread.

Comes down to personal taste. In my opinion the boss 260 is an anchor. Too heavy and this effects handling. The turbo is a better balanced car and although it has less torque and top end power it is much more user friendly and drivable. It reaches its max torque at 2000rpm and keeps it right through to 4000rpm. The boss 260 needs to be revved to do anything and then as a stock motor hits the rev limiter just as it feels it really going. Also as another user noted the turbo is easily worked. $1500 will get you a capa flash tuner, a good tune and around 240+ kw rear wheels. :evilsasmo

Probably not a good idea taking this thread down the 6 vs 8 path, always ends in grief. Lets just say both have merit and I would say it is very ordinary saying either of them is an anchor.

I began my love of Fords on the xr6t, so i do think they are great cars. but the xr8 just has that bonnet bulge which i love and with an exhaust i think the boss would sound amazing.
$1500? is that on a stock xr6t? and that will put 240kw on the rear tyres?

but as far as the 8 is concerned, the only xr8 ive ever driven still had plenty of get up through the whole rev range. i mean compared to my magna auto it would have had twice the torque low down.
