has anyone been done for having Ps behind their dark as tinted windows?? ,i.e -fined for not displaying p plates cause they cant be seen?
my windows are dark as  : ,can hardly see the rear P plate at night ,how bout YOU |

why would you gt done for it? Unless you were being a smart **** of course. I had really dark tint while on my p's and never had an issue.I was pulled over a few times and it was never mentioned.

Honestly, you ask why you'd get done for your P plate not being visible?
You know your tint is dark, thats why the cops pull you over.

Got mine behind a 20% tint. Cops dont seems to car when i'm pulled over-so they stay as they are.

One of the members here got done for it 3points and all.
Ridiculous IMO, the 3points is a killer. Youd have to have bad luck to run into a cop that would do that though. |

The law is P-Plates must be "clearly visible from a distance of 20 metres".
That's that. If its behind tint and it can't be seen form 20 metres, then it can't be seen. It's also worth noting that the act states (in Victoria) that a "P-Plate" is a 15cm x15cm red disk with a white P. Therefore, if you are driving with a NSW white plate and red P or one of the P-Plates that is cut out to just be a P, then you can be done for it. Food for thought. (PS, in anticipation - don't quote me and argue with this, it isn't my OPINION, its law)

It is a requirement for provisional license holders to display P-Plate on any vehicle they are driving.
Partially obscure them at your own risk/peril, more importantly if you do get nabbed don't come bleating on the forum about it. The law is quite clear as is the penalty. Despite many claims to the contrary most police are not sitting waiting for you, and yes most coppa may just understand that P-Plates outside the vehicle often get pinched, and as such are prepared to turn a blind eye to plates displayed behind window glass. The law is clear, the risk is your to decide. For my money, I'd hate to be catching the bus again just because l tried to obscure my P-Plate. |

i thought it was illegal to have them on the inside of your car ??
everytime i get pulled over im asked to move my plate because its 'hard to see' its gehind the number plate, but its hard to keep it on there so i have to stick it in a fairbit. you can still see it pretty good, but everytime im pulled over its the same thing...

My car has a very dark tint and I tried putting the plates on the outside, but no matter what I did, they would stay. Fly off, stolen etc. There was nothing I could do so I had to stick them on the inside again. At night they cant be seen, daylight is ok.

I got pulled over with no P plates, nice cop though let me off!
and im coming to the end of my p plate era with no loss of points (touch wood) so thats good from car insurance point of view! |

i have got p plates on my rear window on the inside of the car.. u cant see them at night unless about 5 metres away, and you can only see them in the light from about 15 metres away..
lol i think because they dont see my p plate they just think im on my blacks so i wont be seen as a 'p plater', my mate just got a warning and the cop said that he wouldnt pull him up on that but if another member of police wanted to, they could pull him up on it.. cheers, Nat |

i might trial it in the rear window, see how i go - saves the hassle of replacing it etc
seems the worst that can happen is a warning - unless your being a ********, and i dont plan on doing that anytime soon so.............

Got legal tint on the back, you can see it fine during the day, but during the night it's a bit harder to see. I wouldn't want to put it on the outside of the window, it'll probably weather away, and I think a P-plate (plate? plastic film, actually) behind tint would attract less than one intentionally made obvious. I've been lucky, never been pulled over period, but I guess there wouldn't be any reason to.

i tied my plate onto the outside of my rear sunshade just so the cops wouldn't even have a reason to pull me over. my idea, better safe than sorry
p.s. i had no tint, just really didn't want to risk any BS |

For the people claiming it falls off/gets stolen - why dont you just cut a small hole in the top corner of the P plate and then use the bolt/screw that holds on your numberplate to hold the P on as well? If this is too hard, cable ties have many uses

I am in NSW and I have the Victorian style 'White P on Red background' plates (the plastic film type ones) in my windscreens. Are they illegal in NSW or what?

Heres a suggestion. Get plate holders that bolt on near the numberplate and use some wire to hold your P plates in. For one you wont ever get done for not displaying your plates and 2, nobody could be bothered to try and steal them.
Ive driven my mums commy plenty of times with the P plates behind tinted windows and never been done for it but if a cop wants to then they are within their rights to do so. Just too many people do it so Id say you would have to be very unlucky to get done for it. |

a chinese teacher at my school came out and she is like 'i didn't know you were a student because you're tint so dark. police pull you over fine you if you not careful.'
as far as i see it, my tint is legal and i think you can see the p-plates pretty well. what is the fine anyway if the cops really wanted to have a go at it? |
