Can any one tell me whats the go with phantom grilles are they ok if you can still get light through them or a no go

I doubt they'd be legal, easy defect. Having said that one would be good for shows etc.

On a RWC our AU got rejected because it had condensation in one headlight, due to the fact that water droplets will affect the transmission of light and beam characteristics, therefore not road worthy. I would suggest that this grille will not have a chance in hell of being legal.
I would look it up but the QLD transport website seems to be down, I will try again later.

I thought that might be the case what about the covers they used to put over the lights my old man calls them bird cages ?? wouldn't that have the same effect ?? like the condensation

plenty of old cars had hidden headlights behind grilles. Alot of american cars i can think of off the top of my head.
I'd guess that if it's factory it would be legal but if it's modified it would be illegal. But i'd also guess that if you do it properly im sure you could get it engineered/approved or something. They look hot IMO |

The difference I'm seeing with say a Camaro, Riviera or a Landau is that the cover swings away to reveal the headlights whereas the phantom grilles have no such provision. I do like them though, they seem to be big in the American mini-truck scene.

most of the cars pictured above have hidden headlights, not obscured ones. as mentioned by lethal, they either rotate or have a movable panel, to have the light fully revealed. The landau posted by mr hardware is a replica of the one from Mad Max 2.
It's supposed to be ugly.

in qld your allowed heavily tinted headlight covers during the day, but must be removed at night, i dont see why the grill would be any different.
