Default AU Resistor Trick

Hi guys.

Couple of questions.

Does the resistor trick work in the AU?

If so does anyone have exact details of where the resistors need to go, photos, wire colours, pin numbers etc?

I know one of the resistors prevents the thermos fans running all the time but will they run at all? What effect do the fans have, are they supposed to cool the engine coolant or what?

Are there any other side effects of using your Auto ecu and doing the resistor trick?

Has any AU falcon owner on here actually done the job themselves?

Thanks fellas.

No I haven't done it ... from what I have heard and read it is a hoax.
Even if it did make a difference ... I think the ECU would relearn (as the EEC Vs do) and make the change defunt anyway.

I wouldn't like to try it ... and cause a short in the system screwing anything electrical in the system (ie: frying the ECU)

I've changed various signals to the ecu on my au and found that whenever you do they just learn around it like mechan1k said, but when they tune around it they seem to go backwards even more, reduces fuel economy and power lower than what you had originally, there is no simple fix in the way of simply modifying one signal with a resistor, it restricts the range of the sensor as well, making it so that a normal say 20% change of temp is read as only a 5% one.

: Yes... they cool the liquid inside the radiator, thus cooling the engine...

Switching off electric fans has a TINY effect on engine performance. They use a bit of electricity, thus causing a slight drain on the charging system, this makes the system work a bit harder, but if you can tell any difference, even on a dyno, then good luck and keep doing it....

Oh yeah, I got a bridge for sale if you are interested, it's a little one located on Sydney Harbour....

um no fellas, the resistor trick for when you change from an AUTO to a MANUAL, to tell your Auto ecu that it is in neutral gear, and stop the auto Ecu from going into limp home mode.

Its got nothing to do with what you guys are on about. I'm not an idiot.
Check any E series Auto to Manual conversion guide and you'll see what i'm on about.
Why would I bother putting in a 2c resistor when I have a unichip in there?

I'm assuming that because no one on here knows whats going on and there's only one other guy I've found, AlbanyCobra, that has done the conversion himself that nobody owning an AU actually knows for sure.

I know that last statement may sound harsh but the amount of advice that comes around from people who haven't actually done it and don't know 100% for sure is really annoying and has already cost me a lot of time and money when they swore black and blue that it was right.

i have heard of what you nention just didn't realise thats what you meant. the best way to do the conversion is to change the ECU and be done with it they are fairly cheap from the wreckers these days

Sorry dude, but I don't thing you made it particularly clear that you were talking about the resistor trick for a manual conversion to trick the ECU. Pretty sure I and everyone who responded thought you were talking about ebay style mod chips.

Id love to know what wreckers you visit....if you find a series 2 vct manual ecu then please let us know, that is of course if sprjenkins doesnt need the same one.
I wont give any definate answers here but after trying to do the same thing ive heard that the ecu does learn around the resistor trick after a while, and unless your into resetting your computer all the time its not worth the effort.
The tuners can definately flash the manual program in but not sure how effective it is or performance wise, ford can flash the manual program in as well maybe they might be the better soloution?
Otheriwise its just try and find yourself the right ecu to suit but even then i think theres an issue with the security between the different ecu's and still has to be taken to ford for learning it to the BEM??
