Default Whats the law regarding quick acceleration on the street?

Hey all, just wondering, whats the go when it comes to how quick one can take off at the lights, for example. If someone takes off in a cloud of smoke with their *** end hanging out, I can understand the getting in trouble from the law. Now, if one takes off quick from the lights with no wheel spin, and is in complete control of their car at all times and no speed limits were at all broken, at what point do or can the law step in and say "thats too quick, son". Can any one share their experiences? What is the law, is it open to interpretation?

In QLD it reads:

291 Making unnecessary noise or smoke
(1) A person must not—
(a) start a vehicle, or drive a vehicle, in a way that makes
unnecessary noise or smoke; or
(b) wilfully start a vehicle, or drive a vehicle, in a way that
makes unnecessary noise or smoke.
Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.
Example for paragraph (a)—
driving a vehicle in a way that causes noise or smoke because of—
(a) disrepair of the vehicle; or
(b) the way the vehicle is loaded; or
(c) the condition, construction or adjustment of the vehicle’s engine
or other equipment
Example for paragraph (b)—
driving a vehicle in a way that causes noise or smoke by wilfully and
unnecessarily causing the wheels of the vehicle to lose traction and spin
on the road surface

But it doesnt define how loud the noise needs to be....

Have never found anything with regard to fast acceleration....

had a mate, who is a cop follow me in an unmarked cop car waitin for me to do something wrong......... I didnt know he was there, I had a genIII commy, I took off a little fast, ie planted the foot so i got off the lights fast but no wheel spin, he hit the bubblegum lights and pulled me up. He coulda booked me if he wanted etc. It wasnt harsh acceleration , just a good decent takeoff.

I've been stopped many time on motorcycles 1000cc plus bikes.
Once the cop kept me there for nearly an hour trying to find something to book me for. In the finish he just told me to slow down and take it easy.
There's no fun in that. Fastest I've been on the road? If I told you the speed I'd still get arrested even today, lets just say very very quick indeed.

From what ive seen, unecessary noise seems to be at the police officers discretion. If youre seen taking off from the lights at WOT, or something they feel is loud enough, to warrant pulling you up.

It may not necessarily be the law, but it doesnt seem to stop the boys in blue from pulling you up on it. Fight/argue it, and theyll just make youre life hell.
Not a personal experience, but I have observed it happen to others.

Or the policemen's favorite when all else fails, "Driving with undue care and attention"

The other thing a lot don't understand is just because the speed limit says 60 kph,
if in the opinion of the officer, you are driving too quick for the conditions be that weather
or traffic, he can book you..

Most coppers don't go out of their way but now and then you meet dirty harry......

as far as i know if there is no smoke/skiding and you Dont break the speed limit doesnt matter.

Thats why i love torque. When ever some kid in his old commy wants to play i let him take off snap second hit the speedlimit and cruise. This way i wasnt racing him and i wasnt speeding. But stil gets him looking to the side as i fly past for a second then brake at the speed limit. Normally resulting in them speeding off

In regards to the noise, what if you had a modified XR6T with a standard exhaust take of at 60% flat to the speed limit. Surely a stock/quiet exhaust on a 6cyl would not be over this undefined limit?
And even though it's 60% throttle, i'm sure that's making more power than the majority of cars flat out.
Would this hypothetical car get done?

Be careful of anti hooning laws,

Actions that are seen as anti social can run you foul of the law.....

Street racing can take the form of spontaneous one-to-one racing or highly organised
events, while “hooning” generally refers to activities such as burnouts or excessive
acceleration
. Recent media reports have highlighted the potential for fatalities or injuries
and the public nuisance caused by these behaviours. Subsequently, formal “anti-hooning”
legislation has been passed in four Australian states and New Zealand.

And my exhaust is very loud

That's the answer right there...

Not to mention that on other forums (and also a guy i work with) people have mentioned being booked before reaching an area where, for example, the speed drops from 80 down to 60, and the policeman estimates that you "couldn't have gotten the vehicle down to the required speed before the sign". Here's your ticket.

This is possibly linked to the misconception some people have that you only have to start slowing down when you reach the lower speed zone sign or, more usually, start speeding up before they reach a higher speed zone sign...such as flooring it as you approach a 100 sign when coming out of an 80 zone, but before reaching the 100 sign. Lot of people been booked for that, believing some such nonsense as "Once the sign is clearly visible you can start speeding up"...

So you're expected to do the speed limit at the sign? In that case, speeding up within clear sight of a speed limit increase should be as allowed as slowing down prior to a speed limit decrease. But they only let you do it one way......

I asked a cop this when I first got my P plates (here in SA) he said it doesn't matter how fast you get to the speed limit, as long as you don't break into wheel spin, stay in your lane and your exhaust/motor is not too loud (defectable).
