I've always wondered why it's called South Australia, I mean it's not really the southern most part of Australia, even Melbourne is geographically lower than it... Why didn't they call it something like Lower Central Australia or Middle Australia that's Down a Bit???

Take a trip there and you find that the good people of South Australia don't have two heads or pointy ears at all. It fact they look remarkably like the rest of us!

I'm only poking fun at those who believe they live in the best state of the nation mate. In all my trips there, I've found it pretty good, good people, good climate, plenty of space and some pretty good wine!

The only way to see if you like the place is to go over there your self and experience it.

Wine is poo! beer is better. i didn't know we had two heads and pointy ears? must be what those scars are? As boring as it is i probably would not live any where else! It's easy to commute to work and any where else you want. The South Coast is just down the road as is the Riverland. Glenelg is getting pretty severe these days, except they took away magic mountain and put some other poxy thing there. Oh how i will miss Street Fighter and Mortal Combat. There is a few backward hillbillies here and i could introduce you to some if you so desired. Only problem is there is no 1/4 mile action at the moment because of the old, bald, tight arsed Victorian wont pull hi shead out his bum hole!

When its cold, its down right freezing and when its hot, its enough to fry your brain..
Nice people, crappy people, beautiful city though... lovely river.. gawd, making myself miss the place (well almost)...

You won't really regret moving there.. unless you move to Qld (but we don't have enough water at the moment for those already living here : )

EMO people are weird! I got skateboard and we get out at night a fair bit. Best thing about South Oz is it has real pubs where you can go have a real beer and a real counter meal. And you can sit and have a real chat with your mates. Dont remember the torrens ever being nice? I'm afraid i'm gonna get meningicocal every time i go near it. Or a dead body might float past.

The river I meant was the Murray of course.. I remember many a night we would have fires on the river bank at Renmark, Paringa, Lyrup or Loxton (depending where we were at the time)....

I moved to SA from Melb about six motnhs ago for work. I've found that this place is great! There is hardly any traffic (compared to Melb), everyone is friendly and its just great. Everything is so close, from the beach to the hills is about 45 minutes THRU the city...

Adelaide is great because it is a very laid back and relaxing place. Traffic hassles are minor compared to other capital cities. If you like hot summers then this is the place for you. Glenelg is a great place in summer but it has lost some of its appeal with all the new highrise apartments and Magic Mountain is no more : It is also the home of Coopers Beer!

Things about Adelaide I don't like are the tap water, the average work prospects, its isolation and too many fringe dwellers. Plus from my understanding the states financial position is poor.

Naa stay in Prictoria, get busted for speeding 3k's over the limit, pay exorbitant prices for everything, wait half your life in traffic. Your cops are nasty pieces of work, it usually rains aheap there, you will never afford a house, naaa stay where you are.

SA isnt bad, just some car parts are hard to get hold of, but uther then that, night life is good u just need to know where to go on what day, driving is good, chicks are good and you turn right from the right lane. copsdont pick on you asmuch as victoria, we have a 10km tollerence unlike vics 3km or so, less speed camaras, people are nice, Sa isnt a bad place to live, and for the people that come hear for hollis you would see all the emos as they hang around at rundel mall no where else, and the skate park is in the citty so its only on that side of town you fine thoes people the rest is great.

Default I was just looking

and saw your thread so had to register to reply.
SA is great, as they say. I live in Perth but am considering going ''home''.

I can't believe all you car nuts haven't mentioned the Adelaide Hills and how great the drive is.

If one of your favourite past times is going for a drive, let there be Adelaide Hills. You will love the roads.

As for lifestyle, definetly don't expect Melbourne. But don't pick on Adelaide people as boring, they are just content and non pretentious (spelling?)

and as for the ''chicks'' being good looking, I agree, how can I not, I am one of them !! lol

Honestly, you would be crazy to consider a move without having a holiday first, just to make up your own mind.

the difference between south australia and the eastern states is historical. the eastern states were settled as penal colonies whilst south australia was settled by the wealthy (and free) under the wakefield plan. this goes towards explaining the difference in attitude (and the more correct grammer of the south australian)

Spent a year working in Adelaide back in '99. Lived on the foreshore at Glenelg - 10 mins to work, 15 mins to the city (even with a 60kmh limit on the Anzac Hwy) and 30 seconds to the beach. Work mate lived in Nth Adelaide and that was also very convenient - lots of pubs and restaurants.

For the most part, really enjoyed it. Rundle Mall can turn feral at times, but plenty of other options.
Never got used to the taste of the water, but if you buy bottled in bulk containers it's pretty cheap.

Cost of real estate nowadays seems to have risen on par with Melbourne. Still a little cheaper for an equivalent suburb, but definately no bargain.

Relocating to Cairns next year for something different. Spent a week there back in August to suss it out and the newspaper headline for the first four days was all about muggings and bashings in the city.... seems like all cities have their share of problems.

Not sure if its still the case but the Crazy Hoarse Strip Club in Hindley street was considered best in Australia. :

But South OZ is a great place to live & work. Normally id say our Basketball team the 36ers (named after the year we where founded 1836) is always up there but not this year. Great wineries & great swmming beaches (we havent got the surfing beaches of some states in Adelaide Metro anyway) Adelaide Hills is a great place to visit & fantastic place for a drive. There is no more beatifull place in the planet than to watch test cricket than the Adelaide Oval. Alot of IT & defence jobs in this stae.
What better location for a V8 Supercar meet than Clipsal 500 running through the heart of Adelaide's fashionable east end. Plenty of great restraunts in this city too. Rundle street has gots some great places to eat after the Clipsal.

Adelaide International Raceway and you'v got Mallala just further up the road for drift comps, few V8 'supercar' kinda things. It's out whopp whopp tho (by elizabeth)
Adelaide's a good state, easy to navigate, get anywhere within an hour generally.
Southern expressway is a joke.
Etc etc.
