Lots of private sale Mustangs

Couldn't help but notice lots of basically brand new Mustangs on Carsales for sale by private sellers.

Obviously people who have bought the car to make a quick buck due to strong demand and long order times. Just wondering does this end up working? Anyone bought one off a private seller? Anyone sold one? Is the demand still strong?

Curious about the state of the Mustang demand even after it's been on sale here for a while.

Some of those prices are fanciful...hence why they're still for sale. $130000 because it's a rare colour. Please. I really hate people sometimes lol.

Good on em. If they can inflate the price through the roof and someone is silly enough to pay it then why not.

I had a client over Christmas who just bought one "Second Hand". The original owner had it for 2 weeks after sitting waiting for some time. My client got it at normal retail without the wait. Race Red, GT, couple of options.

If HSV dealers can do it, why not Joe Public ?
But seriously what are they thinking? when you can wait a bit longer and pay retail price, or a bit longer again and they'll be discounting them.

Ford dealers did the same thing with the GTF and Sprints.. Nothing stopping private people from trying it..

No, I don't agree with it but if someone is dumb enough to actually pay the exorbidant amount for it then more fool them..

Just because they mark the prices up doesn't mean they sell for that. When I'm looking to buy a new used car I'll pick they model I want, then snapshot every add, then I can refer back to the first time I saw the adds as the price goes down, I snapshot it again until it disappears. You can roughly work out how much they actually sell for on an average. I must admit it takes me months of research to do this. So a car for sale 20 grand or so above the average isn't going to move in a hurry.

They are the same people that invent a number plate MU574NG, pat themselves on the back for being so smart and then ask $50,000 for it.
It doesn't hurt anyone so I guess let them have their fun.

That's probably in part because of what happens when people are suckered into buying a car that...at least for the first period...no one had seen, sat in, or test driven.
The local Ford dealer, when I asked about the Mustang back when they were first confirmed, advised me to plonk down a deposit right away...a few months before their official sale date and with an 12 month-plus waiting list already. I asked, incredulous, if people were doing that for a car no one had even seen in the metal yet, and he happily said "Oh yes, plenty have".
When the honeymoon period is over and you start living with it every day, people might have found it wasn't all they thought it would be and now try to cash in...

I saw that with the GT500s when they came out. I remembered the sticker price was well over 50k, and a few years later you could pick one up for $35K. Still high but reasonable in comparison.

Yes, if someone is willing to overpay for a vehicle on Carsales, good for them. Thats the free market at work. Then again I was not smart enough to get into the bottle water and generator business for the end of the world Y2K.

IF , I was in the market for a Stang , it wouldn't be the four pot version..
Greatest respect to the Ecoboost 2.3 L but I can only think of a proper pony car with a big bent eight up front..Just seems natural.. Then again in the way back in the sixties I think the majority were sixes for a time..
I notice the 2018 Mustang has dropped the V6 though..(wonder how a Barra Turbo would fit, nah, too much fun )...
Maybe , the Eco stangs are just not quite making the right sounds like the GT's do or maybe as others are saying super low kilometres Mustangs in general are pulling prices for eager buyers to pay more to save a long long wait..
Doubt whether it's due to the ANCAP low safety rating or any disappointment with quality issues , more likely it's making a few bob on them while you can. Cheers Rod..

Yep, that's what I did when I ordered my LH Torana based on what I had seen and read in the motoring mags of the day...... worst car decision I ever made.

From what I understand, dealers cannot order mustangs to keep as stock and can only order them for a customer.

My father ordered a Mustang and paid a deposit for it ect then a friend of his also ordered one a few months later for a lower price. So my father went to his dealer and ordered a second one at that same lower price with the intention of cancelling his original order.

The original dealer didn't want him to cancel the order as he'd rather let it come in and sell to someone else for a higher margin and would give him a small 'cash fee' for allowing the car to actually come into the dealership. So father kept both orders, the first mustang come in and he got impatient and decided to keep the original car. He's now made a deal with the second dealer to allow the order to come in, then dealer will sell at a much greater profit than my fathers order, and he will give my father a cut.

Everyone wins right?

That's the first I've heard of dealers giving customers a cut of their profit, just trying to get a set of floor mats or a tank of petrol can be like pulling teeth.

My dad is an excellent negotiator! Though there are more cases. He did get the idea from another workmate of his who ordered an XR8 sprint but later realised on test driving it does not get up his driveway.

He too tried cancelling his order but the dealer begged him not to, the dealer wanted the car to arrive and for him to be able to sell it to someone else. Workmate says "I know you will get $5k more at the very minimum, I want $2.5k or I will cancel my order" the dealer really didn't like that, but eventually settled on giving him $1k.

The only $130000 ones I see are Roush enhanced vehicles, so a little different then what you claimed as someone saying because its a rare colour.

I bet it wasn't 15 plus months like some for the Mustang though...
