Too green?? So with all the CGI available a little green cannot be edited out? I think going to SA is cheaper personally. Probably has a lot less red tape involved.

Nothings been confirmed as to filming locations... or even said offically or unofficially. Except that it wont be done in Broken Hill.

Quote:
The next Mad Max movie, Fury Road, will no longer be shooting in the outback city of Broken Hill. Director George Miller says the desert remains too green for filming after extended rain that forced the shoot to be postponed for 12 months. Currently finishing Happy Feet 2 and looking to start pre-production on the fourth Mad Max in October, Miller was hoping the desert would dry out to resemble the required post-apocalyptic landscape. The film crew had built a road in the desert and had stored 150 vehicles for the film, which will star Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Hugh Keays-Byrne. "The Mad Max landscape looked like Wales," Miller told Garry Maddox. "There was a carpet of flowers on the location we were shooting on. There's no way it's going to brown off. Not only that, we wanted to shoot some of the shots on Lake Eyre but now it's full of pelicans.'' With pre-production scheduled to begin in October, the search is on for a new filming location both within Australia and internationally, possibly in Morocco, Chile or China. Miller revealed that Fury Road will be the first part of a new Mad Max trilogy, with scripts being written for fifth and sixth movies. Scrapping filming will hurt Broken Hill, said the city's mayor, Wincen Cuy. ''It's going to affect the community as a whole,'' he said. ''What we've lost is to associate our name to it and any marketing.'' However, he saw the irony in the fact that the rain the town had prayed for is what did them in. ''One man's medicine is another man's poison,'' Cuy said. ''But Broken Hill's had a film industry for 30 years and it will continue.''

Until its offical I wouldnt belive what your mate said... Parts of South Africa are much too dangerous

Mount Isa? Too much sulphur in the air, would be like filming in hell, wait a minute that's perfect some footage from Broken Hill and some from the Isa.

Or perhaps we just leave the mad max franchise in the past and enjoy the movies for what they are instead of trying to cash in on the name with if history serves correct will be a pretty ordinary movie.

I just can't see why we need another 3 movies to the series, i mean they haven't even filmed the 4th and they're working on scripts for 5 and 6, seriously?

I wonder if people were thinking the same for Harry Potter? The number crunchers are thinking that there is money to be made so they will try to make the movie. When you think about it, comparatively speaking the costs for that style of movie wouldn't be all that high so who knows....

Have seen recent photo of the filming area and its not really the greeny thats the issue. The grass is no longer green, but brown and there is plenty of it.
Too much grass (even dead grass) appears to be the issue as they want a almost sandy desert type environment.

Knowing what workplace health and safety is like today, I can fully understand why you'd film a balls-out action film like a Mad Max in South Africa...there's been a few action movies filmed there...cheap to film, exotic locations without being too remote, and a compliant government with little if any red tape.

Nothing to do with OH@S at all...

A bituman road several KM long was built on a private property to avoid road closures. Stuntmen do their own OH@S.... And there has been no red tape issues.

The NSW government even gave out money to help keep the movie in Broken Hill.

I always love rumours... and this is why I said the one about South Africa being the location for MM4 was just a rumour and means nothing.

It seems Morocco is claiming to be the new chosen location:

http://www.bladi.net/mad-max-4-tournage-maroc.html

The website is in French and i have used Freetranslation.com to convert it to english, which is why some of it isnt too coherant.
Quote:
The Australian director George Miller chose the Morocco to turn the next episode of his saga "Mad Max" as early as next October. To the poster of the film, of which gone out it official is foreseen beginning 2013 to the United States, one rediscovers this time Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

The road movie of science fiction australo-américain entitled "Mad Max IV: Fury Road", will be marked by the absence of Mel Gibson, that camped the first role at the time of the preceding episodes.

The film that will have for framework the Moroccan Sahara, had to be turned initially to Broken Hill in Australia, but the director changed opinion because of the meteorological conditions not very favorable, depriving thus this locality of a financial hamper of about 12 millions of dollars.

My mate told me he's going to South Africa next year to help with the mad max movie...
He's a stage hand at the moment and got the job from his uncle who is a camera man.

I just can't wait to hear the locals on the film talking to the car in an accent like in the movie lethal weapon 2; "bet, bet, bet, you're bleck" and "just been de-keffa-nated"

What a disaster this will be. no MEL and no Aussie outback. I wonder if they will oust the Aussie built cars too in favour of South African built cars.

I wont be watching it.

China would be ideal for a return on investment. The Chinese can do anything, rip off anything, make everything cheaper.

And their economy could do with a hand from us afterall.

eh don't care where it's filmed, will still watch it.
it won't matter about the cars either, how many years into the apcolypse were the others? Can't imagine too much mass vehicle manufacturing during that time.
I'd imagine the vehicles would be pretty much f150 style pickups with roll cages everywhere with little resemblance to the donor car.
