I wonder how long before the conspiracy theorists come out and say it was a hoax and done from a film studio in area 51
(that was for those of us who can remember the original Moon landing )

Or, not as quickly as the media will pump out a manipulated story on how the Falcon is dead, the moment FoA release a contrary statement... Or.... (ok ok ill stop ) Still my hidden point is how little people care about landmark achievements such as this compared to back in the day of the moon landing. Its sad & degenerative really. |

you're right.....I thought this was a monstrous moment....I expected a lot of comments but it seemed to simply slip into the "ho- hum whatever man" category
I am absolutely blown away by this sort of stuff.....the process to get a vehicle into space is massive, to guide one to a distant planet, mind blowing then to land a rover on a planet and beam a message back, to me, is unbelievable I think when the moon has more monetary value we will return, mineral explorers will go anywhere if the price is right just a matter of time but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one impressed with this type of thing

While sending back a message is a big achievement, in this day and age it kinda is a "meh big deal" moment.
Transmit a real message from a real person standing on Mars and people may take a bit more notice. |

Not a lot more to be done from the moon, unless it's mining Helium 3 or something equally exotic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium-3), but it would be expensive.
Planets are far more interesting, especially one like Mars with an atmosphere and which once held large quantities of liquid water. |

The whole discovery mission thing blows me away. I'm stoked that they've landed a vehicle on mars and are sending pictures back. Personally I'd love to see more money go in to the space program, rather than being spent on America's "Defense"
edit: Then again, if they find oil on mars no doubt the budget will go up significantly
