Pretty sure the trans/transaxle is in the rear of those corvettes. Great for weight distribution when the engine is installed, but clearly not so much with no engine in them. The subsequent phone call to the client would have been a good one.

if it happened in a Ford dealership, would they lead with 'they all do that' or 'it's within tolerances' ?

79 series land cruiser is another bastard child you need to be careful with on a 2 post hoist - limit your swinging on things under it

I don’t understand why people are not safety chaining (or lashing) at least one hoist leg to the car. Ideally at the lighter end. I feel uncomfortable working alone without this.

whether its hoists or forklifts ive always slightly lifted and gave it a while then checked its stability before fully lifting and keeping clear
and at work im lifting odd stuff on to (or off of) trailers with my 10t fork or stacking my unused semi trailers in the corner to keep room down but i cant say ive chained as i have to lift it for me to get under to chain and by that time it could be too late if its not stable and i wouldnt want to be getting under as its starts to topple so best to do it right and have it stable to start

Falcon utes are not well balanced if you lift at the jacking points, to throw a chain around one leaf pack and the hoist leg is easy. Older Citroëns were famously nose heavy and more than one has gone up slowly but come down a bit quick. I’ve also got a front drive Alfa that is sketchy on all four lift points. That’s just a few from my experiences. Not really different to tying off a ladder for work purposes.

I always thought those in ground scissor lifts were a bit dodgy, you drive over the platform and the car sits on rubber blocks you put underneath the car which then touch when you lift the hoist.
Would rather use a 4 post hoist with the wheels on the deck. |

Put a spirit level on it before you lift, see which end is heavy!
But, the guy is not someone to trust holding a ladder for you as you climb, some folk just have no idea, "lights on, no ones home" types. I never used a guillotine with someone who was missing a finger tip, never, ever, ever! Cheers Billy |

Other accidents have occurred where people have used it on lawns and soft ground or even over a soak well or septic tank and a corner has collapsed into the ground but in those cases people were really being just plain stupid. Off course you are always extra careful. I also have a rule of strictly no observers as I have found from past experience observers never seems to be able to resist giving the lift a good shake at one corner while the car is on it and up in the air and I am working in the opposite end of the lift and that just seems to be tempting fate.
