Default Unique EL factory colour

Ive had a look in that e series colour thread and cant find any pics so I thought Id ask.

The colour in question is odd, its almost as if Ford did a factory pearl or something. Ill try and describe it, as ive only ever seen two different cars with it (one a wagon, and one a fairmont).

It seems to be a silver based, with a pearl that changes from a moave/purple to a light blue.

It looks pretty special, and its weird that no one that I know in the e series community has.

Anyone seen it? Its not quite in your face, but when it goes by you can notice the different colours. Im 99.9% sure its not custom as the people that I have seen driving them dont look like the type to respray their cars with it.

^^^^Read thread title, EL

I know the colour your talking about it but have no idea whats it called. It definantly is a nice colour, may have been only released for limited editions or something otherwise im sure it would be more popular...

are you referring to mercury (silver)? this was a colour that came on the ELs midway through production. My old EL fairmont wagon was this colour, i'll see if i can dig up some pics. it used to look silvery blue, and would sometimes appear pinky purple in the sunlight.

*EDIT* here we go:

cheers,
Julza

What you're describing sounds like the paint on my car which is Platinum Silver.

It changes a lot in light... Can be silver, light blue, a very deep mauve almost purple, and also has a tinge of gold to it in some lights.

Nah blackout, unless I was still hung over I am sure it was changing colours, I think your silver does go bluesh, but not purpley/pink.

Julza's pic is spot on, but its definately not called mercury silver, thats a BA colour.

yeah Julza's is the colour I'm thinking of too, a mate from TAFE has an EL GLi in this colour. a few minor mods and it would look hot as.

Not pink, but if you see my car at night parked under a street light you'll swear it's mauve/purple.. which is what you said in your original post in which you also never stated the colour pink :P

hey guy's yeah the colour is called mercury (not silver though). yeah mercury silver as you guys have referred to is the BA silver, but this colour was simply known as mercury. I'll see if i can dig up the original colour chart. We got that car new back in 1997 and ordered the colour specifically, was one of the first actually so took a while to be made.

cheers,
Julza

also thought i might mention that there used to be some variation between cars painted in mercury, i remember the one we saw in the showroom (an EL GLi) was more of a bluey colour, whereas mine came out more purplely-pink...

Mine's also platinum silver but for some reason I don't seem to get the blue look for some reason. I get silver, and can get a more gold colour in different lights

I would say that the pic of blackout's EL looks blueish, as its a reflection of the sky... you can see the reflection of the clouds too...

Some ELs seem to have the same silver as the EFs, which is Argon Silver. This has a purpley pearl through it. I cbf posting a pic of my EF, which is this colour.

Most ELs are just a plain flat metallic silver...
