Default My Falcon Au 2 can not do wheel alignment due to the worn rack?

I found the steering wheel was not straight after two new tyres were fitted. So I went to JAXQUICKFIT for wheel alignment. But I was informed that they was unable to do it because the rack was worn after inspection. They suggested a replacement should be done as soon as possible. The cost is about $650

Yesterday, I checked the rack and tie rods based on process this forum recommended. No leaking, no play, and rack and tie rods connect each other firmly.

does this indicate the rack is good and do not need to be replaced? Shall I go to another place to do wheel alignment?

Thanks.

i don`t know mate, if in doubt a second opinion is not a bad thing, you may be right, but with not knowing how well you checked over the thing it`s hard to know, do you see what i mean, i`m just thinking they may have noticed something you did`nt.

Sounds like they're trying to rip you off, based on what you say. I would recommend a second and third opinion

Did they mean the steering column cause it can get play in it from wear and heat mainly in the 8s.

They did not mention anything about the steering column

They also said my front rotors and brake pads need to be replaced, but the report, which they made two weeks ago when they changed the two front tyres for me, said the rotors and brake pads were in good condition.

I will go to a local Bob Jane to check and make the wheel alignment

From this and your original post, sounds like they're trying to rip you off. I'd try somewhere else.

Nope,Im in Adelaide but to me Id rather pay a place the same hourly rate that specialises in suspension.

Try a powersteering specialist.Google powersteering specialists in your city/suburb.

Well actually most tyre places have a suspension specialist working there, and is usually the one that does the wheel alignments as well. How do i know? Ive worked in one for 2 years.

I've worked in the industry (more years then I care to count), show me a certificate for a "Suspension Specialist" and I'll show you mine for "Omnipure Sewerage Specialist" (mines legit).

Unfornuately, its a high turn around rate that generates the most profit, which normal means "toe and goes" more times then not and test drives are optional.

Its hard to find a good one, generally speaking the older guys that have done mechanical trades and are looking for an easier job make the most knowledgable and professional wheel aligners.
