My Mrs said to me today it will be nice when we buy "our" car.
Our car? Huh. She said that when we sell my xr8, my ltd and her fairmont that we can go and buy a new or near new range rover and some small car for a runnabout. I almost slammed on the brakes ( I was driving at the time) um but my next cat is a fpv gt 335. I'll buy you a range rover when I buy my gt. I'll also get a runnabout as well. She baulked at me, isn't that a big waste of money. I said but I'm really interested in cars, need a toy, it makes me happy. She said why can't I enjoy making things with wood or something, make a birdhouse. It's far cheaper. I said I like what I like and ill have my own toy. My toy. Now I'm not suggesting she can't drive my car or anything but its my toy. Do you have your own toy or toys or is it shared "ours" What toys do you have that are yours. |

I'm lucky with this. I can have all the toys I want, as long as it's not a motorbike
She doesn't matter if I have an XR6 Turbo, with a buh-zillion killowasps. As long as it's not a bike. She's happy with anything, as long as it's a hatchback, and it's a pretty colour ;) Last edited by Auslandau; 08-01-2012 at 12:45 AM. Reason: removed deleted quote ..... |

She can have what she wants, I'll always have my toy. And the mrs knows this too! Don't let her tell you how to spend Money hulk. If it's within your means then buy the GT but maybe pick something a bit less soccer mum for the mrs. Plus side is my mrs knows I want a toy and doesn't care what I get.

The Camry is hers
The Fairmont is mine. I pay for both (although she does atm), but we have always had hers/mine cars. However we both use them as much as each other, although lately if we use the Camry, I get her to drive, because it is her car and every now and then I like to be the passenger. The only thing she wants, is she wants the next new car, because evrytime I have bought a new car, she has been given the older one. So the next car she has stipulated is hers and if we ever have the money for me to buy an XR6T or F6, she has to be allowed a Mazda 6. |

Everything that is mine, is ours. Everything that is hers, is ours. The only "yours or mines" we run are to do with care and responsibility.
In marriage, it's all or nothing for me. |

My missus doesn't see the point in me spending money on my toy but I just say that I could drink and smoke that shuts her up fairly quick

I don't share anything - I find it very difficult to trust people with my money or belongings, and I know it's sexist but I don't think I could feel 100% confident sharing a car that I paid for with a woman, it makes me cringe. Good thing I am single

We are very fortunate to have the best of both worlds. Both Jack and I have daily drivers as well as our coupes....
If he could have a toy...I wanted one too! We have a total of 4 cars! As I said, very fortunate that we can have one car as a daily and the other one to play with.

Everything is ours. Whilst I like cars, I don't consider it a "toy" as such. After driving a bouncy, loud (exhaust and straight cut gears) but fast WRX for 11 years, it's great to be driving the XR50. It's 'my' car but she pays for it as much as I do. She didn't really want to buy it but she realised how much I liked this car. She drives a WRX but it's only midly modified. If we go out, we generally take my car (more room with the kids) but if we go in hers, I always drive as well. I've always liked driving but she is a great driver as well.
I guess my 'toys' are my model car collection. Although I think my wife thinks that I love my XR50 more than my family

last car that was ours, got treated like **** and ended up with a severe lifter issue that resulted in major engine damage, this is due to the ex mrs not knowing **** all about cars but saying it was fine, then she put it into a tree, and it was game over. Now i have my ef, may not be the best looking car around but i like it, and its mine, mainly because the new mrs dosnt like ford

My cars are my cars. My wife doesn't ask to drive them nor wants to (she's expressed this). She says that they are my toys.
She drives the family car (not a Ford) when she needs to go somewhere. This car is registered and insured in both names so I guess that makes it 'our' car. I rarely drive it though. Recently she's been riding as passenger and instructor in my son's baby Lancer 1.5 coupe while he's on his L's to give him some time behind the wheel.

As long as I put a roof over our head, food on the plate, clothes on our back, fuel in the car and money in the savings, I can do whatever I like with my money as I work bloody hard for it. My cars are an expensive hobby but I love them and she appreciates that as long as my other priorities are sorted first which is fair enough.

I have a company vehicle to drive an I let my wife pick a vehicle she is comfortable with.
Her worsening condition means that she needs a vehicle that's easy to get in and out of and because her left leg is weakening, needs to be an automatic, CX7 fits the bill. |

We have two cars, an ASX and an AU, mum drives the asx to work and dad drives to work in the au, so we refer to them by that.

Mine...but its ours. She will get a fiesta/focus/mondeo when the money is there, I'll get a new falcon/ranger when the money is there. So they are essentially 'ours' but we claim what vehicle we want/need. She needs a run around sedan, I need carrying capacity.

The way I see it if I pay for it, I wash it and I fix it, it's mine... If I find Miss Right and she wants to buy a new FG GT or a New VE GTS and she pays for it, I will wash it, fix it and it can be both our car

I've got 7 registered cars, so I consider them our cars. She can drive which ever one she wants when ever she wants. She tells me if there is a problem with one and if I need a hand to fix, she's there helping.
So a definate our cars.

Mine says she wants to keep her Toyota echo forever because she loves it. Sounds good to me, more money for my own cars that I like.

Not sure... She has her VT and I have my BA. The BA is mine, but I met her drive it if i can't be bothered. I drive her VT on long trips. I'm completely **** about my car so it's usually only driven to work.
She had no idea about cars, so the VT was run down when we met.'sorted it out though. I dont have any toys as such. I like mainaining my car, which she does complain about a bit (I wash it every two weeks). My exwife and I shared a BA falcon. That didn't work out.

As someone else said it's all or nothing.
I couldn't care less if my wife wants to drive/use my toys. In fact it's great to share somewhat of a common interest. I don't get why some people are so pedantic about wives/girlfriends driving there cars etc. More to life than this. |
