Hi
I have a '66 Corsair Crayford that I was told spent the first 23 years of its life in Australia before being brought back to the UK in 1989. It has "Super" trim badges (instead of the usual Deluxe, GT or e). I don't suppose anyone has any knowledge of a car with a history like this - or even just if "Super" was an Australian Ford trim level. |

you might already be in this club http://www.crayfordconvertibleclub.com/ the Corsair assembly plants Halewood, England (1964-1969) Dagenham, England (1969-1970) and crayford was a coach builder/automotive division . Crayford Auto Developments, Ltd and Westerham, Kent, England maybe researching company achives may pop up the super badgeing question so fully Imported to australia if chrome badges on the panels are super not GT etc ... no information on that found super trim name was also an australian automotive trimming company started in 1960 http://supertrimcoburg.com.au/about-us/ 66 to 89 is a long time to track a car history if it had many owners if the trim is a Super trim design then Victoria is a great start ford car clubs of the times or vehicle magazines may show a hit but you could try a search the registration plates if you knew what they were in australia at the time http://www.mvdb.com.au/search.htm

Welcome to the Forums peel62. What a rare car! I don't believe Corsairs were sold here but your car could well be a private or dealer-organised import as was a 'standard' practice back then, if you know what I mean. Not common, but some dealers would bring in cars as a special order.
I'm not sure if Super would have been a trim level used here in any case, as the Mk1 Cortinas were badged 220 & 240 for 2-doors and 440 & GT for 4-doors. |

can you put a picture of the "super" to compare lettering style
or is that chrome strip say "super" across the bonnet cant find a ford reference using single 'Super" chrome badge for a corsair "super " as a chrome badge may have been used on other vehicles/ of the time

This is the "Super" badge in close-up and context. Many Corsairs have a GT badge in the same position. I am a member of the Crayford Club as well as the Corsair Owners Club. Apparently every Crayford was "unique" and there are no company archives that can be trawled. When I bought it two years ago it had ancient Lotus running gear and 30-year old non-European Grand Prix 'S' tyres, but unfortunately no record of its Australian registration. |

the badge would have been made onsite at the Engineering plant of Crayford Jeffrey Smith (engineer and designer) is the one who would have done this - during 1966 as crayfords started around then , as a coach builder..only making the cars into convertables that Super badge makes it like a custom signature for them badge is very high quality - most other makers would have blistered underneath with age that must be the answer then cant see any british vehicle with anything close nothing like that super badge in australia or america without a rego and original V4 motor - cant trace it in australia again may show up in a photo shoot of car magazines here one day who knows very nice classic

Hi. Check out this site, http://www.simoncars.co.uk/ford/cortina1.html . Numerous mentions of "super" cortinas in the UK. Cant recall seeing that badge in australia. Cheers MD

what the ..... well both badges are from england then
could a badge be "modified" and put on a corsair after a paint job one on the cortina is newer and sharper need them both side by side and back to back check depth to the badges , the shape of the V , the number of stripes
