2007 LT TDCI sump plug

A simple one for you blokes in the know.

What size allen key is the sump plug? None of mine fitted when I sussed the job out and I couldn't tell if the plug was perhaps slightly damaged or was an odd size.

Be most careful as I used the wrong size key and ended up buying a new sump plug. The fact that the dealer had them in stock tells you something I suspect the metal is a bit soft. I cannot recall the correct size now.

interesting that the diesel needs an allan key to open the sump plug... petrol just needs a spanner

i wouldn't consider this anything odd. it is fairly common (good?) practice to replace washers and sump plugs every few changes

can't help you on the size either. but if you need to replace the sump plug, i would suggest getting a magnetic one so that any stray bits of metal coming off inside the engine and in your oil stick to it and can be removed at the next oil change. i'm surprised at times how much is floating around at changes!

Is it an Allen Key or a Torx head in the sump plug ? I would think they would at least have a Torx head plug for easier removal

It's a size 8 allen key.
