Default E Series big brakes

Just wanted to make a post about the various brake upgrades people have on their cars.

Post details of what disc and rotor it uses etc.

I recently fitted a Race Brakes Melbourne/Cebco kit.
It uses a 94-04 Mustang Cobra 330mm rotor and the PBR C4 caliper (EL GT, AUII-III premo brakes, Mustang Cobra etc).
The disc is floating and I think uses a trailer hub on the modified EF-EL spindles.

Couple of issues I had with this kit were the Show Wheels Streeter rims a had did not clear the caliper, so I sold them for a set of genuine EL GTs because the GT runs the same caliper, so I'll be fine with them (I thought).
The GT rims rubbed on the spindle just below the upper balljoint.
Wouldn't have happened if they were replica EL GTs
To fix this I used an 8mm slip on spacer, until I can afford some wheels I really like.

Another issue I had was finding out that EA-ED and EF-EL use different spindles and steering rack ends. The later use a shorter rack end and slightly chunkier spindle.

So to stop the massive toe in, some EF-EL rack ends and tie rods were fitted.
Not a huge cost or pain fitting, just an inconvenience.

Looks a great kit, I'm definitely interested in those hubs though. I have been given a quote for hubs to suit e-series spindles similar to those in your pic, not sure if they are CNC machined or not though, cost was $420 a pair.

Only major problem with E-series Falcons was always the cost of big brakes. Any reason you went with this kit over the RB Sydney one?

The hubs look like lathed down standard rotors. Mate did this and fitted AU11 calipers to his EB track car. Used mustang 330 rotors and apparently work very good.

How do you mean Lotus?

I assumed they're trailer hubs. They take normal Falcon bearings.

Here's a closer pic.

If they were trailer hubs why would they have the ABS ring. I think you will find that the trailer hubs take a smaller grease seal as well.
Mate lathed off the brake section of the standard rotors. You end up with a hub simular to the AU's. He then got them lathed down to a diamater so that mustang floating rotors would fit over them.
Track was around 6mm wider either side than standard but he was not worried since it was for his "track car".
If you wanted to have the standard track you would have to lathe off the thickness of the floating rotors off the front of the hubs.
I think you will find that the mustang rotors would be the same as the rotors used for the AU 330 brakes.

With saying your rims are touching the stubs, I'm sure I read here somewhere that there were 2 Cebco kits. One had the EL GT rotors and the other had floating mustang hubs and came with a spacer.

Didn't even think about the ABS rings derr.

So you think the hubs are from something Falcon but machined down?
Might make replacing them fun if I needed to.

My mechanic who plays with Saloon cars said there is or was a kit that came with spacers, so probably correct about the Mustang-EL GT rotor kits.

I don't think the AU 330mm rotor is the same as the Mustang one. Atleast part numbers don't match, but i've only checked DBAs lists. DBA don't have techincal specs on their website anymore I don't think.

I'd say the hubs are lathed down standard E series rotors. What you do is remove the wheel studs which knock out the ABS ring and get the pad surface lathed off and lathed straight down so the 330 rotor can fit over the hub.
I've got a set of 330 brakes for my AU1 and i measured the rotors that are for the AU against the EL GT rotors and the seem to be pretty close to each other. Since both rotors have been used it was difficult to get an exact measurement. Only way would be if you had new rotors.

I have a UPC kit. Unsure about the rotors as I have been told thier kits use eithe a BA rear rotor or mustang front but with my rotor only having the 5 stud holes I am thinking its similar to what the OP has. Caliper was I know they are twin piston and based off the pads commodore based

This is another upc e-series kit but as you can see compared to my pic above it has completely different rotors which are rear ones

I think with the upc kits it depends on the offset of the kit as to which rotor you get. Before my kit turned up I did some reading online and found there are 2 differnent offsets on there kits

All these kits have standard E series stubs but have been modified in different ways to bolt on a bracket to fit the caliper on.
I think UPC use the original bolt positions, just have been drilled for larger bolts and tapered on the inside. Mine and Qwik6 are both Cebco kits but mine use EL GT rotors and Qwik6's kit use a hub and floating rotor (simular to UPC) and mustang rotors. I think our stubs use the original top bolt locaton but the lower one has been removed, reshaped and drilled further along towards the stub axle, mabye to get more strength.

Similar story with mine. Haven't properly driven mine yet. Just around the block to make sure nothing fell off.

The rotors I have for my AU1 Cebco kit are a 2 piece and have a spare set that I picked up from a 330 setup off a Ser2 AU. I checked these against the EL GT rotors and found them simular in brake location. To be sure I suppose you would have to check new sets.
I was looking at getting a standard set of rotors and getting them lathed to make a hub and use the spare 2 piece rotors I have. Just make it look a bit better and most probably be cheaper to replace.

How would using different rotors work?
Or is it because of the design of the floating calipers, they can adjust to slightly different rotors?

The kit i bought off a forum member had standard EL GT rubber lines. I got some braided lines made up and since the original ones had a rubber gromet on them they fitted an alloy one on the new lines.
The brackets are off a BA, just had to file them a bit to fit the gromet as they have flat sides on them and remove the small tabs they have. Had them Zinc coated

Just a few thoughts if you guys are interested, the el gt style brakes are great for the street, rubbish on the track. If you do track those single piece rotors be gentle on them and give them a good cooling and warming cycle before/after use.
My mate has the upc kit and for trackwork its much better.

EL GT style as in hub in rotor not great for track?
Or the calipers too arent appropriate?

TBH i've tracked the standard size brakes a few time at Adelaides local track which is notorious for fading brakes and never had an issue.
I was running a DBA slotted rotor, Bendix SRT pad and Race fluid.

Yeah the hub in rotor single piece. I cracked them twice on two separate track days and that's nothing to do with the way I was managing them. The calliper size and the inability of the disc to disipait the heat isn't a good combo for repetitive big stops in a heavy car. I have never had problems on the track with STD brakes either but that was before I added 300+hp to the engine.
