Default So i found out why my discovery WAS overheating after it died

So i found out why my discovery WAS overheating after it died

Apparently the thermostat housing has a metal ring that goes in between the housing and the thermostat witch holds the thermostat in the manifold when its bolted together if its not there it just rattles around

So i found out when the truck picked me up off the side of the road this afternoon you might of heard me swearing in Melbourne and the driver was a Discovery owner i explained what had happened with the over heating prior to cooking itself to death and he new straight away he just squeezed the radiator hose and jingle jingle it went

I didnt even think of it on the way to work i only noticed after it started pinging and farting and now it runs on one cylinder or close blows a little blue smoke and a little black it leaks from the head gasket and rattles like a toy

So now i need a reco motor ASAP im in Corowa near Albury i dont mind paying frieght from anywhere

If you know a good cheap engine supplier please email me or post or pm

Default Disco

Its a 93 Disco petrol V8

Dont knock em we will see who is still running in 30 or 40 years
most early 90s Toyota's or Nissan's are long dead already
diesels belching blue smoke blown turbos mega rust for the Land cruiser

Just remember what they said on top gear

If a land rover and another 4x4 where to have a race the land rover probably wouldn't show up cause its got something more important to do

They voted land rovers the best 4x4 ever

Land rovers are all the same just a different pair of pants

I have owned a Land cruiser and a discovery they just don't compare

when you see all these V8 conversions going on why bother

My 4x4 has a fuel injected v8 in it from factory power window cruise control air con veluor seats plush carpets full time 4wd in cab diff lock the list goes on

Anyway i love it drives better at 60 on the dirt than my fairlane on the road

In the fact that the pommie crap blows heads, have dodgy electrics, snap axles, go thru gearboxes, rust problems, has poor build quality like no other.
I have a soft spot for them but I'd never go back after owning a 96 4.6 RR. That thing gave me a few grey hairs and lets not mention the fuel bill.

What caused the thermostat to come loose ???? Did it corrode/collapse - or was the incorrect part fitted....

It's a disco man! They have trouble keeping their fluids on the inside, which is what yours did.
If you want to keep it a v8, rip out the rover motor and put a chev in it. While you are at it, take all of the Lucas electrics out and put some new aftermarket stuff in.
Then replace the diffs, gearbox, steering, and suspension, then you will have something that might be reliable. Except it is still a landie and will want to let the fuild out.....
