looking for a bigger engine for my KH laser, it has a 1.6L carbi motor on it and its a 5 speed manual, i dont want a turbo, but wondering where i could find a 1.8L DOHC engine, and would it bolt straight up?

The 1.8 EFI DOHC would pretty much bolt straight in, possibly with different mounts although I am 99% sure they are not.
Getting the old motor out and new one in is straightforward, but there is a bit of work in wiring up the EFI. Allow 1 full day labour to remove old engine, another full day to install new, and another day to day and a half to wire up the EFI and other bits and pieces. All in all if you aren't able to do it yourself, I can't see a mechanic doing it for less than $2000 - $2500. Not really worth the trouble for that kinda money man.

thanks, is there a carbi version of the 1.8L DOHC? and i could do it with some of my friends help (74XB and 78XC)

The BIG question is, is that do you need an Engineers certificate? Because they can cost amazing amounts of money and you don't want your car to be defected. Then there is the question of NEED. Is it worth speding that sort of money when you COULD get something ALOT bigger in all sences. Think Falcon Captain! Food for thourght...

i don't know if you still keen on doing your swap lol.... i have done this to my car i had 1.6 carby auto kf laser... i took the tx3 non turbo motor also kf.... i was lucky i got the tx3 off my cuz for 500... engine mounts everything the same.... all i had to do was bolt up the peddles and shifter (no mods needed has the allowance) and wire the compter and pump... PLZ make sure you use the efi tank and the little solenoid thingy as well (think was 3 small fuel lines and a little metal thing hahaha). i used the whole tx3 front (pwr steer, cv's, hubs, brakes etc). this motor is 1.8 dohc efi 16v is 123hp much more than the 86hp of the 1.6 !!wrapped!! though i still not sure bout the engineers certificate :( thats what lead me here in the search. Anyway i not sure what area you live but narellan (c/town nsw) there is one at a wreckers. Havent been to see it but last i asked them the motor was untouched so but that was bout 6 months.... Best of luck
oh the kf ghia or something has a 1.8 sohc efi not sure if they have in carby anyway that is 100hp... |

The GHIA was EFI as well ... just SOHC.
Still had plenty of go though ... Mum bought her KF manual GHIA new in 1990 ... and sold it eventually in 2005 I think it was ... that car still went strong ... and looked the goods as well. I learnt to drive in that car ... still had standard engine/gearbox/clutch in it ... had the Whiteline works kit in it though as the old suspension was tired and needed replacing. In the end ... the cost of a conversion may be just as much as selling your currently GL and getting a GHIA or TX3 non-turbo ... and more specs in the higher models and better interior as well. The old girl not long before it was sold Damn it was a fun car to drive ... solidly built.

allow about 3-5k for an engine conversion thats just for parts. i bought my 88 TX3 Turbo for $3500 so yeah its cheaper to buy something like that. fordlaser.com have a browse there probably find a KF/ KH tx3 NA for about 3k

you could buy my KH2 TX3 N/A on ebay now----------> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Laser-KH2-TX3...item3a5f1471f6 and pull all the running gear out and swap it in to your car in a weekend. WOLLAH
