good 6x9's suitable for AU ute rears

Im running a pioneer 4x50w head unit, with a pioneer 400w 4 channel amp, fronts are pioneer 3 ways (with the seperate tweeters in the dash). Im after a decent set of 6x9's to go straight in. Whats recommended? Im just after some good bottom end with speakers that can handle a good crank (not sure of the wiring spec but its the car audio equivilant of home audio monster cabling)

6x9s arent a straight fit, you would need a set of adapters which are about $30 a pair.Not at all hard to do but not a 'straight fit' is all.

5x7s will go straight in and I can thoroughly recommend Clarion ones which are about $100 a pair. A good cheap upgrade for the stock speakers.

To be honest, i didnt measure. I just looked at it and guessed that they'd be 6x9's. So l guess im looking for 6x7's... or a set of spacers and 6x9's

if they're 5x7s like the sedan... I have some soundstream 5x7s in the front of my sedan and some pioneers in the back... before I put my sub in from memory the pioneers had more bottom end than the soundstreams... but I give them a fair beating and both seem to be holding up with no problems.

5x7 all round and an 8" sub in the parcel shelf of optioned up sedan and LWB models.

Just make up a MDF/ply baffle that covers the access holes in the rear where the standard 5x7s go and cut a 6x9 hole in it, make sure that you seal the baffle to the frame (and speaker to the baffle) using some CCF as a gasket. This will lead the B-pillar cavity to act as an enclosure.

Being that the positioning of the speaker is less than ideal (ie: ***** HOUSE!) I would just buy some cheap *** 6x9s from JB hifi, they will get loud enough and if you set the gains on your amp correctly and don't push your amp into clipping they will crank all day long

I made up a set of spacers for the 6x9's I put in my parcel shelf. Was very easy to do. I highly recommend kicker. they give out a nice amount of bass too without having to go for a sub woofer.

I just put in Pioneer 5x7s at the time ... only used them as partial rear fill anyway ... I had most of the fader to the front ... and the 12"s behind the seats looked after the rest of the bass.

When I am going to do with the BF ute now though .... it do away with the rear speakers altogether ... as i barely heard them anyway in the AU ... and less hassle mucking around with it.

Just because i love the JBL stuff in my house. I'll obviously have to use spacers (unless im really lucky). I went 6x9's because i havnt got my amp in the ute cause im running all 4 speakers from the amp cause the head unit is junk. I have an 8" free to air but im not a fan of installing amps in utes.

yeah, for rear dude, and got some spacers.

done it this morning. Bit annoying with a lack of space, and screwing the spacers into the metal plate behind the carpet. Also, the aeropro spacers i bought ($20 supacheap auto) we pre drilled for screwing the spacers in, and they have used a large drill bit. Ended up using wall plugs lol. But it all worked out well in the end.

Sorry, that was meant to say that i havent got my sub in my ute.
All 4 speakers are running from my amp. The JBL's have given the bottom end that i was after, all though its not bouncy enough for my liking. Maybe i'll look at installing my 8" at some stage for a little extra.

i definitley considered them damo, but the only reason i didnt is cause im loving my JBL gear at home, and i could get em pretty much straight away at a good price. Wouldnt mine listening to yours sometime though.

I'm not really a fan of 5x7's, im not a fan of spacers being on the parcel shelf, and there was no way I was cutting the parcel shelf.. So I bought the spacers and molded/modified a set to go underneath.

Gives a tight flush mount and looks pretty clean. Also gives you the ability to choose whatever 6x9 you like (far greater variety over 5x7).

I ended up getting a set of Infinity 6x9's and cannot rate the high enough. I used them in my EB for a while in the rear, and no matter how hard I pushed them, they never faulted once.

Here are some pictures to give you an idea.





They are a very large 6x9 but mounting them this way doesn't make them sit down too far and take up boot space (eg below)



Hope that gives you some ideas.

If needed I could probably make a set and send them to you (cost of spacers + postage)

lol. Its a good idea anyways, and didnt think of it when i had my ef, and settled for 6" all round with an 8" in the parcel shelf. As my pictures above, the spacers are screwed into metal plates (designated to hold speakers) behind the carpet. I used 2 1/2 metal tech screws to mount the spacers and then screwed my speakers into the spacers. All good so far.

the tweeters can also adjust the db output from -0 to -3db at the press of a button on the tweeter, which is a bit of a novelty, but definitely noticeable. Kinda cool i thought.
