Default kings superlow springs

Hey guys,

About a month ago i installed a full set of kings superlow springs in my au 2 xr8 sedan. Now i have travelled about 1100ks since then and the car has only dropped approx 10mm from my measurements. from the wheel centre to the top of the wheel arch. I still have the factory struts, but even still i would have thought it would have come down more than 10mm. Any ideas???

Tim

Bugga :(
I think i will look at changing them now. The car looks ok but its still not low enough on the 18's for my liking.
012, just looked at the photos of your TS50, what setup are you using, it looks tough, it has a nice stance about it, i have the same rims as you and that is about where i want the car to sit on the rims.

In those photos, I have custom made King Springs. About 10mm lower than SSL for front, and 25mm lower than the SSL for the rear. I have since (a week ago) changed my front springs to King SL. Was too low with the 19" rims.

I would leave the SL's on the front and change the rears to SSL. This combo is the most practical for a everyday car. Still very low, but not so low that you squash snails as you drive over them :hihi:.

you could change your rear struts to somthing with an adjustable spring plate, my AU has superlows in rear (ill get a pic up tomorrow its sits level with rim) and I have bilstien adjustable's ,I can change between 4 height settings except the higher I go the stiffer it is. I changed from standard height to lowest a couple of weeks back $40@ACE to get it squating down on the strip, but it bottoms out on steep driveways and big bumps ,once ive run it its going back up abit. thats the advantage!

SWOOP, where did you get the Bilsteins from and how much?

Photos would be great.

they came with the car ,when we removed to change to SL's I found that they were adjustable aswell I think SVO did the whole car, so not sure on price ,Id say round $500 for two struts, Ill jack it up tommorow and get some pics

its a basic strut with the bottom spring plate sliding on the body ,only retained buy a c clip underneath in the various slots and by the spring tension itself

i have measured 340mm from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch on the front and 365mm from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch on the rear. this seems bugga all difference from the standard springs. I did check the springs before putting them in and the had the SLXXXXX part number on them ????? very strange.

i ended up leaving the super low springs in. i installed some kyb struts and the car has come down just over another 5mm, so im happy with the way it looks. and its practicle for everyday driving. it sits nice and low with 5ppl in the car and a tank of fuel. i have 18" rims with 245/40/18 tyres and dont have any scraping or rubbing problems. it measures 330 from centre to guard at front and 355mm at the rear. here is a pic

I originally put SL in front & SSL in rear. After a few weeks i didnt like it so it now has SSL front and rear. Shockies had to be changed though to shortened shocks.
I have no problems with speedhumps or going up driveways. I still have 17" rims though. Not sure what will happen if i change to 18" or 19"

Today I chucked Casper's old Super lows in the back of mine and it came down from 670 mm to 648mm (nearly an inch). This is measured from the ground to the guard in line with the centre of the wheel. The car now sits low at the back and up at the front, but that should be rectified once I get carratt's front superlows (they should go in some time tonight). I note the original post says 10mm, if that's on an AU2/3, then that would be right because I'm pretty sure that AU2/3 XR height was a bit lower than AU1 (by around 10 or 15mm, IIRC).

Thanks Casper. Just finished fitting the fronts (thanks to carrat), and the new height is 649mm, down from 660mm - so I think I found where the 10mm comes from! Not a bad height, but when Casper decides SSL is not low enough, I'll take them too!

GK - Didn't get a before shot (and I'm not spending 4 hours returning it to stock), but I can get an after shot at some stage - probably late tomorrow, or later in the week. It's nothing special - only SL, but at least it's not up like a boat anymore (especially the back). With a full tank of petrol AND a full tank of LPG, I reckon it might go another 5mm or so lower at the back too.

What about the pics of your ride as your avitar? Is that the height previous the SL springs? If it is, you could blow that pic up I guess!

That may just happen.. but not this year. I'm already committed to too many thousands of dollars.. the car stays on these springs for a while now..

And then CUSTOM springs.. gotta go LOW BABY!

Good idea. I'll take the SL shot from the same angle and that should show the difference.

Casper, the LOWly white ghost.

Took the car for a run this morning, and then it has been sitting all day, and front and rear both measure 645mm from ground to guard lip. Very happy with the way it sits and drives - these springs actually soak up the bumps better than the stock ones.

Told ya. Everyone laughed at me but the SL's are SOFTER than the AU1 XR stock springs.
